jrb,

I did it & it created the .delta. Will this .iso boot a 64bit l/t with a Chrome OS?

I don't have a chromebook so can't be sure but I used this search and found Chromebook (How to use and put Puppy on a Chromebook)
by bigpup. Hopefully that will answer your questions.

Good Luck, J

Hallo, jrb.

Nice effort, as always. I always seemed to have 'issues' with the original Tahr64-605, but then I was using it as a 'testbed' for so much stuff in those days, heaven above knows what I did to the poor beast..!

I had to move onward & upward to Xenialpup64 eventually, because I was no longer able to build the Chrome browser packages correctly. It wanted newer GTK-3.0 items than were available in the PPM. I know now I could have 'retro-fitted' this stuff from a later Puppy, but.....well, it's in the past, long dead & gone.

Yes, most of the 'portable' browsers run fine, though I have discovered one very strange item. NetFlix fires up fine, you can select videos and they start.....but on a 'frozen' screen. They will not actually play. Which is peculiar. This happens in all browsers, by the way. Yet if I re-boot to either Xenial64 or Bionic64, and try the exact same thing in the same portable browsers, everything functions as expected.....

So; something isn't behaving itself in Tahr64-lite, though I don't know what; these portables all have their own self-contained directory of dependencies (courtesy of battleshooter), meaning I'm stumped on this one. And the terminal, on this occasion, doesn't tell me anything I actually need to know!

NetFlix say they're currently 'researching' this "behaviour".....

I'll keep y'all posted if I unearth a fix for this, BTW.

I suspect it might be the fact I deleted the "mesa files and drivers" to make the puppy.sfs smaller. A quick look shows me it cut off at least 78Mb uncompressed. That's a 20% reduction. I don't have the bandwidth to do netflix so I can't test but I could probably throw together a mesa.pet it you wanted to try it.

Ermm; yeah, that might have summat to do with it!

If it was only one or two browsers, I'd suspect those instead of Pup.....but it's the same in every single browser that's capable of playing NetFlix, and these exact same portables work fine with NetFlix in other Pups.

Would you mind putting a .pet together for those items, please? (*bats eyelids....grin*) It would prove the point.....and it could remain an optional download & install for those that want it. Not everybody's interested in streaming media; even for me, it's only an occasional thing, but I am a huge 'Star Trek' nut, so......

No hurry, mate. As & when, as & when.... :) (I'd do it myself, were it not for the fact that I don't have a clue what I'm looking for....)

@ futwerk:-

Erm.....I thought that was supposed to be Tahr, NOT "Thar"?

Nice work, though!

Zoom needs mesa which is not included in tahr64-light. But I just uploaded april64-zoom-7.0.1-uefi.iso which is Zoom ready, nothing to add and the April64 OS is lighter-weight than tahr64-light. Give it a try and let me know how it does.

Cheers, J

zoom for april64

#54 Post by gabtech »

Hi jrb,

I downloaded your april-zoom iso, but when I launch zoom in terminal I get the output in attached screenshot. I had similar issue with zoom in stretchdog and zoom was able to start after installing mesa. Where can I find mesa for april64?

I was sure I had it working. Mesa is already in april64-zoom if you type:

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/X11R7/lib/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib
in a terminal it should start up for you.

I'll reupload immediately.

Thanks for testing, J

Zoom Installtion in tahr64-light

#60 Post by gabtech »

Hi people,

I've successfully installed zoom in tahr64-light and it works just fine as I'm able to attend meetings and hold meetings. My concern is I get the error in the attached screenshot when I run zoom from terminal. libdbus-1.so.3 is installed in /lib/libdbus-1.so.3, it's a symlink to libdbus-1.so.3.7.6.
