installed a complete LHMP Hiawatha v10.10, PHP 5.5.9-1ubuntu4.29, mariaDB
and zoneminder 1.34 (just released today)

The web server can be used with modification of the configuration to run pplog as expected and as is to run any other web application like WordPress.

All systems are GO for launch.......

I am considering a remaster of the Tahr64-Light with the current configuration to create a Tahr64-Lite-ZM and offer it as a ready made solution for a home camera security system on older hardware....

If you are trying to save space, just go to openprinting.org and get the specific PPD file for the HL-2040.

Good, jrb, thanks. Yes, please keep both geany & leafpad.

You can open a file in a new geany window by using the -i option.

You can have geany open by default in a new window when you click a file by editing the Set Run Action in rox (right click a txt file) and adding the -i option.

And you can view 2 tabs in geany side by side from the menu:
Tools, Split Window

Edit: sorry, it's -i not -s

You can also edit /usr/local/bin/defaulttexteditor and add the -i option:

exec geany -i "$@"

Great! It works! You can just provide the ppd file of your printer without installing the entire database. Thanks.

OH, rcrsn51! So would my Brother HL-1450 use the http://www.openprinting.org/download/PP ... _1_GPL.ppd file? Do these work with other Puppys? I've mostly used 32-bit Buster 8.0 of late.
Thanks,
Sheldon

Your printer appears to be Postscript-capable, so this PPD should work in any CUPS without needing an additional driver.

However, I would get a newer version from openprinting.org than this old one.

Tested the Tahrpup light RC, so far faced 2 minor issues:

1. On fresh install, the default drive icon location is on the left side of desktop. This is a problem if you have more than 10 drives icon (2 horizontal rows) and will mix together with the desktop program icons.

2. Gparted seems to miss a library and refuse to run.

Menu->Desktop->JWMDesk Management->Icon Manager->Placement+Refresh
2. Gparted seems to miss a library and refuse to run.

Code: Select all

ldd /usr/sbin/gpartedbin | grep "not"
	libparted-fs-resize.so.0 => not found
	libparted.so.2 => not found
Thanks for bringing that to my attention lizardidi. I left out the parted package. Will be fixed in the next build.

Edit: Have placed a temporary fix for Gparted on page 1 of the thread.

Cups Conundrum

#32 Post by jrb »

Thanks for the input guys, I'm still wrestling with the cups conundrum, what packages to offer for printing. I have a modern Brother HL-2370DW wifi printer, I believe it uses an embedded Linux system so its super easy to get running.

On the other hand I remembered my old Brother HL-1435 win2000 era printer was still up in the garage rafters. I used to have it running with cups-1.4.8 but so far its fighting me. :? If I can get it running I'll probably offer that cups setup as a .pet. If not I'll offer watchdog's setup and hope it works for most if not all.

:D Yes! Got it printing and surprise, surprise did it exactly the way watchdog did his. Will package up everything as one .pet and make it available.

Many thanks watchdog and rcrsn51. 8)

Temporary BugFixes

#34 Post by jrb »

Attachment below incorporated into Update in the post below. Please use that instead.

I just sorted out a few problems with QuickApps, Cups install needed a couple of different downloads and PalemoonPortable had some bad symlinks and wouldn't setup as defaultbrowser. I also included Scanning software install.

Have attached a revised version for testing. After further trials will issue an ISO update.

Have attached here but will provide a link on Page 1 of thread along with links to other Bugfixes as they develop.

Cheers, J

1st Update

#35 Post by jrb »

I've just uploaded tahr64-light-6.0.5-uefi-MK1.iso___tahr64-6.0.5-uefi-MK1.1.iso.delta
  • md5sum 18cad671dc39ce6bba8296f51546a895
This is the first update and corrects:
  • Gparted problem
    Cups files in QuickApps
    Scanner software in QuickApps
Place the .delta file in the same folder as tahr64-light-6.0.5-uefi-MK1.iso and left click on it. You will have tahr64-6.0.5-uefi-MK1.1.iso

Latest firefox esr 68.4.2 (running under Tahr64-light) cannot login outlook.live

I aslo report this issue in the browser section ( seems to be browser issue) :

Looking forward to hearing how it performs on your vintage 64bit gems.
jrb, I just put it on Nancy's oldish? ASUS laptop. A Palemoon appimage works. She mostly does Internet, eg email, Youtube, ..

Would it be of any use to change to a newer 'kernel'?
Thanks, Sheldon
