Yes, thanks for finding that. I have added 'libcgi-pm-perl' and 'libhtml-parser-perl' to the build, so PPLOG now works. It doesn't need the devx.

The PPLOG PET is now 'pplog-1.1.3-2.pet', I fixed broken links on the startup page of the blog.

This fix applies to both EasyOS and EasyPup.

Does anyone have a wifi printer that they can test with Easy 2.2.12?

John O. reported by email that his HP printer (HP Officejet Pro 6968 AIO) is not recognised. He mentioned that it is recognised in Fatdog and a recent official pup.

I sent him an email reply yesterday, asking if he had looked at rcrsn51's guidelines for setting up a printer:

What occurs to me from looking at those points, is the firewall may be the culprit. In Easy, if you change the permissions on /etc/init.d/rc.firewall, remove all execute permissions, then reboot, That will eliminate the firewall as possible cause of the non-recognition.

If still no joy, follow rcrsn51's instructions. Point 5a is to run PeasyPort, which Easy has, see the menu "Network" category.

I would very much like to know if the firewall is getting in the way!

I presume that you just used the normal CUPS web interface to set it up? No extra packages installed?

As I mentioned in the EasyOS 2.2.14 announcement, the PackIt app is supposed to be in the right-click menu when right-click on a file or folder, but isn't. It is still available in the "Utility" main menu. I did have the right-click menu working, must have done something wrong in the pet, I will fix that asap.

Two things or questions:

First Question:
1) was rushing around this morning, trying to do more things at the same time than this old brain can keep up with, and when I updated my EasyOS to 2.2.14, I dutifully copied the 3 things we need to, but of course I forgot to click on the initrd so it could begin to popups to ask if wanted to update the boot specs file.

Upon rebooting and not having a correct 'boot-specs' file,my EasyOS couldn't boot because it now could no longer find the boot partition.

So, I got in another pup (Radky's) and thought, "no problem", I'll just (on the EasyOS USB, inside SDA1) run:

# mkdir initrd-tree
# cd initrd-tree
# cat ../initrd | cpio -i -d -m
# cd ..
----I then, after opening another terminal and typing 'blkid', I made the necessary 'boot-specs' corrections like we used to do in the early days.

Then I continued:

# sync
# rm inintrd
# cd initrd-tree
# find . | cpio -o -H newc > ../initrd
# sync
# cd

...and I thought, ok, it should be fixed now.

Well, upon reboot, everything was now completely screwed (the initrd seemed to be toast) and I instantly just got the ancient blue-screen-of-death from old WinXP days.

What did I do wrong? And if this happens in the future, what is the correct thing to do. just spent two hours re-installing 2.2.14 fresh and re-setting everything up like I had it before. Was kinda frustrating but don't understand what I did wrong......

2) Second question:
I updated Petget, and all the 'Debian' repos updated.

I then installed the latest Firefox-ESR-68.4.0.

Firefox-ESR installed easily and runs great.

I then rebooted (always do this after installing something).

I then go to EasyOS Main Menu, click-->Filesystem-->EasyContainerManagement, and select "Simple".

I wanted to create a 'Container' for this Firefox-ESR install.

But, nowhere under the "Simple" Easy Container Management" menu, is the selection for Firefox even available.

In EasyOS 2.2.14, is it still not possible to put something, or in fact, anything???, in a Container after it has been installed via PETget Package Manager??

I personally dislike doing any Containers via SFS system. But I understand if you say it (using SFSes only) is the only way, at the current time, that Containers can be set up & run properly in EasyOS.


P.S. Also wish there was a way to have a jwm tray icon to know the firewall is actually "Active". Call me old-fashioned, but not seeing anything always leaves me to wonder about it....

As far as I can see, the steps you followed to open up initrd look ok.

Of course, you could have booted any other Easy, then just clicked on the initrd to fix it.

Look in /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

What does the "Exec=" line look like?

It should be just "Exec=firefox", no path and no parameters after.

This is an, admittedly annoying, restriction, that can cause the app to be left out of the drop-down list.

I am not sure, but maybe the names should match, that is "firefox.desktop" and "Exec=firefox"

Also, don't select anything in the "Security options" frame, it will use the default.

Yup, works like a dream, thanks. Bit of a 'paint drying' job to boot up, but everything's there and working. Nice to have all the old familiar stuff too. Trivial, I know, but the background is more inspiring than the EOS default - might transfer it in an odd mo., esp. if we're screwed down for a long period - my guess Sept. at earliest. Nobody's safe till the vaccine's ready - maybe 18mths?

Running EasyPup-2.2.14 on a laptop with an internal drive (sda1) from an external IDE-HD onto which I dumped the easypup-2.2.14-en.iso, I was faced with the following phenomenon:
EasyPup-2.2.14 correctly discovers an already existing Easypup save file in sda1 and offers to either upgrade this file (by pressing ‹Enter›) or to boot into RAM exclusively (by pressing any ‹printable character›). Choosing the second option results in the expected quick-setup screen, but surprisingly sda1 proves to be mounted simultaneously and cannot be unmounted! (screenshots 1 and 2)

If there are 2 (I think more than one) Easypup save files available in sda1, booting exclusively into RAM works fine, provided the ‹0 option› is selected in the spontaneously appearing list. (screenshot 3)

After a seemingly successful installation via petget (no error messages or comments on missing files) I, so far, was unable to launch wine.

sfsget is broken in version 2.2.16!!!

I am removing 2.2.16 off the Internet, will post a new version soon. If you already have 2.2.16, I will post a fix.


Re-uploaded 2.2.16, it turned out that the SFS-file-list file at the ibiblio.org repository was incorrect. I fixed it, and now sfsget works.

Patch for Gpptp-V2.0 on EasyPup2.2

Gpptp-V2.0 as released on EasyPup2.2X doesn't work. This patch addresses the issues.

What it fixes:
1) Adds an "ip" symlink to busybox in "/bin". This is needed by the pptp binary. Symlinking to the "ip" binary in "sbin" fails.
2) Makes a "/dev/ppp" node which is missing in EasyPup and adds code to re-create it every boot in "/etc/rc.d/rc.local"
3) Installs new "options.pptp" in "/etc/ppp"
4) Adds a default "ip-up" in "/etc/ppp"
