Can I get a .pet for GnomeRAR?

#1 Post by nic007 »

Need a .pet for this. I have a lot of rar files and apparently this utility has extra functions dealing with files in an existing archive, etc. Thanks.

Do you have a link to any sources for this?
The latest version I can find is 0.5.0 from year 2000 !!
This requires GTK1 which in turn requires much older Glib and probably other older libraries, so I think it will be a challenge to build it in any recent Puppy.

Would something like this help?

What version of Puppy do you want to run it in?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

And we could always run the older version of puppy in a chroot:

Gnomerar sources
http://gnomerar.sourceforge.net/download.html

If you download and use Uextract to unpack it.
Inside the extracted directory of gnomerar-0.5.0.tar.gz.
There is a readme and install text files.
They tell you how to compile, install, and other info.
To compile need Puppy version dvx and kernel sources sfs's loaded.
Some free space to compile in.

It also requires this:
Rar archiever
It can be found at www.rarsoft.com
After unpacking rar (its a SFX archive) you should put the rar file and
default.sfx for conversion to SFX of arcives in /usr/bin
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

From the readme text file:
You will also need the GTK+ 1.2.0 or above
.

I didn't realise it was that old. Anyways, I'll just use winrar with WINE.

Peazip will read RAR archives, though I don't know whether it can save in RAR format (never tried). Works for me (old version from 2010). It's LGPLv3.

I don't see it in Bionic's ppm, but you can download a portable (static) version from the website.
