When HAmsters met puPPY.........

#1 Post by The Hamsters »

Hi all,

we are "The Hamsters" and we come from greece.
we love puppy (and generally small dists) so we took the decision to translate
puppy to greek.

we've made the first step and made a website (http://hamster.tuxhost.gr/). visit us and tell us your opinion.participate if you want.

we've also made a remaster of puppy 3.01 (Happy Linux) which you can find in our web site. it's all in english so if you don't know greek there is no problem. it's only 144Mb.

Some info about about "Happy Linux":

xfce4, firefox 2.012, pburn, puppy software installer, new theme

we uninstall some preinstalled programs such us: seamonkey, all games, calculators, calendars etc

the terminal shows the file you are and not "sh...."

hope you like it.

well i went to your websites, and its a nicely done joomla based website:) good job, i don't read greek or understand it but I can appricate a nicely done website. If you ever change from xfce4 to icewm send me a line and I wouldn't mind making a start menu button for it, That could be fun, have you ever heard of the saying "Hung like a hamster!" lol maybe you could name one of your releases after it. Also found a video on hamsters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjnsTkNKlsg
lol anyways i've made many releases now and if you hand a hand or help just send me a line.

I tried the dated opera greek language files that I download from opera, and the notices were in greek but all the browsers headings were really messed up, Maybe you might want to shoot the towel in for Opera and Maybe use Firefox? I'm sure there must be much better at using greek?
actually here's the link to the latest firefox in greek
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/d ... ux&lang=el
boy that was simple :)
once you have that installed you can install a plugin for english/greek translations:)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2649

hope this helps:)

I made it 64x64 so you could resize it for what ever size yo needed , Usally 48x48, 24x24, 18x18, 16x16

ttuuxxx thank you very much for the icon, it's already my new browse icon (at the desktop). I know that firefox with it's plugins it's very easy to configure but I still prefer opera cause it's lighter (puppy spirit  ) a bit faster and mostly I'm used to it and love it. I said I'm addicted, can't help it
Your welcome Its a one of a kind, I made it from scratch so feel free to use it as much as you want. Its yours!
Like I said if you ever want to use icewm as a window manager i could make some buttons also , lol[/quote]

thank you very much. it's really nice.
make what ever you like and we are going to use it (logo, wallpaper, etc)
we want to finish the translation (and we are moving really fast) first.
after that we will improve "happy linux".and why not a third puplet completely in greek with icewm and your artwork.that would be nice.

"fire hydrant" is perfect.very good effort.

i'm really sorry for my english.

Hi Hamsters,

Do not worry about your English...a Greek Puppy is very interesting to all here. I think I can speak for other puppies of the realm that Greek is a good addition to Puppy. Onward you Hamsters :-)

@ The Hamsters,

Hmmm...maybe a new thread under "totally off-topic" would be a good place to post Greek recipes for all of us non-Greeks that love Greek food. Yum and hope you post your cooking skills there.
