I believe a new compile of ALSA is being used in Woof Alpha 7
so I was keen to try Mhwavedit . . .
I set up the gain and mic setting using the Alsamixer
and had it all working and recording
and then I did a podcast and . . .
. . . crackly rubbish (after normalise to boost volume)
Can you get Mhwavedit working?
