How to create an image of my slacko 5.3.3 system?

#1 Post by bups »

Good day everyone, is it possible to create a system image of my current hard drive? How do I do it? I tried using pmirror and pbackup but I can not understand how to use the programs. Ive created backups of "root" and "filesystem" using pmirror. If this is the correct way to make the backup of my puppy installation? how would I recover it, do I copy the files? Sorry if I am not clear enough I am pretty new to this distribution. Thank you.

Do you have a full install or a frugal install?

If it's a frugal, boot the puppy CD thus:

Code: Select all

puppy pfix=ram
Then navigate to the location your save file is located, and copy it (right click on the icon -- it will ask for the new name). If you have 2 or more save files you will be asked which on to load (so I create a "tiny" one, just for doing copies and maintenance).

For a full install you'll want the whole partition (sorry, I really don't know any other way to do it).

Probably the easiest way to do that is via Clonezilla, and a secondary or an external USB hard drive.

http://clonezilla.org/

This will produce a compressed image of all the junk on the drive.

Thanks rcrsn51! I'll try to find some time to play with it.
