Installing Java, without I'net connection - how?(Solved)

#1 Post by Marcel »

I installed the java1506.pup on my Compaq Presario laptop (which is old, like me) and, since installing Puppy, is wondeful (like me!). It creates a nice icon on the desktop :) , but when I open it it requires a download from the Internet.
I don't have a net connection on the laptop :( - I d'load .pups on my Windoze m/c at work and copy to the Compaq. Can I do the same for whatever it is that java asks for, and then copy it to my laptop?
Thanks for any help.

Sorry folks. I just saw another post suggesting to set chmod for executability on Java.bin, so I'll have to go home and see if I have Java.bin.

Download

Linux (self-extracting file)
(filesize: 15.99 MB)

from here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Copy it to the offline-computer, for example to /root

Then open a console-window, and type

cd /root
bash jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586.bin
