What works, and doesn't, for you. Be specific, and please include Puppy version.

eeepc 1001p slacko 5.7 working

#1 Post by navegante »

Installed on pendrive Slacko 5.7 and booted fine on eeepc1001p.
Having no cd-burner on eeepc, I installed puppi on pendrive from another computer. There are workarounds to install from Window$ to the pendrive without a cd.
For booting from pendrive, bios setup must be configured, first HDD is your pendrive, first boot device too (a workaround with a hardrive installed Grub should be possible).

Used Mesa driver for Video card.
Used patch eee-snd-hda-intel-patched-k2.6.25.16.pet from https://archive.org/details/PuppyLinuxPuppeee to enable internal mic (noisy).
Webcam works, install Guview from package manager.
Wireless saves profile but must be loaded and connected every time puppi starts, didn´t search or try any patch.

There are full-sized CD/DVD external burners availible $50 or less.. I use one for my stuff on 8G model and 900a model (both Linux builds). Tho not portable, at the desk they are quite handy for remastering your own, playing music-CD's, DVD's, loading Puppies.

Really, IMHO the orig. kernel does well and can handle newer stuff like advanced https security. The internal microphone in those are crap indeed, and cause other problems. The external mic-jack is way better.
