Re: gnome-mplayer and dvd's under precise 571 retro
And as a request, I'd also be interested in seeing a L-R balance control appearing at some stage in the retrovol package Puppy has had L-R balance for some time, but it is not in a menu that I know. When the mixer is open, use 'F1' to learn how to do L-R balance, and more. Create access to the mixe...

cluster of 9 MB
That cluster of 9 MB's worth of ffmpeg / libav libs still appear to be duplicated in /usr/lib and /usr/lib/i686/cmov I thought they had been removed or converted into symlinks during the size-reduction phase a little while back. I could not find the dups: find /usr -iname '*ffmpeg*' -ls >find.txt 2...

Memory is maxed out at 1gb. I don't have a swap file. Could that be it? 1gb is enough, but I would test the memory. A swap file seems help. Use PPM, install 'memtester_4.2.2' and see if any memory problems. Run memtester several cycles, it takes a long time. Browsers use more memory than just about...

@jim1911: Here is something to try. Pick a Puppy where NTFS mounting works and copy its ntfs-3g components into Precise. For example, I went into Wary 5.3 and got the files /bin/ntfs-3g, /lib/libntfs-3g.so.79 and /lib/libntfs-3g.so.79.0.0. I dropped these into Precise and mounted an NTFS partition....

Re copying to ram
Setting nocopy for Precise 5.7 brings initial RAM usage back down to near the same as Precise 5.6.11 that is... 199MB rather than 554MB with copy.Barry wrote:You now need a boot param "puppy pfix=nocopy" to prevent that.
Is copying to RAM mostly an advantage for flash installation?

Sylpheed runs great Precise 5.6
Couldn't get either Claws or Sylpheed to run in 5.6. Might've had something to do with huge lists of dependencies? Didn't see .pets for either, either?
