Look for "trip_points" in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/ Open it as a text file and you will see the temperatures at which the fans will start. Mine is too high (70 degrees C). I can change it temporarily but I never found out how to do it permanently. One thing that I noticed, with most puppy versions I ...

Hi sc0ttman, I've played a bit with mounting ntfs partitions and the problem is definitely related to using the mount command without specifying a file type. mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 uses a different driver to mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 When "-t ntfs" is specified ntfs-3g is used to mount ...

Surely megaupload is not the best choice for such an endeavour. I have a premium account but what about the many more that don't? Downloading many small files as a free use is a pain. Even Megashares would be a better option as for free users there is no count down timer and you only have to enter ...

Hi, How does VLC know which codecs it can play? I have a version 8.6.i installed which I use as a backup but it doesn't seem to play a lot of common file types. It keeps saying no suitable decoder module. Are the codecs built in with VLC or does it use an outside library? I think mplayer has some ...

you had to use puppy pfix=copy to force to copy to ram at startup. I think in the earlier Puppies if you had 256MB or more ram then it automatically loaded the pupxxx.sfs into ram. At some point the 256MB was changed to a higher number and the pfix=copy was introduced. A pfix=noram can be added by ...

I have used Netmeter on Windows and it had that feature. I believe Netmeter runs under Wine if that is of any use to you. http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/ I am curious about the cause of your problem. I routinely browse, download and use voip simultaneously without noticing affect on browsing ...

What is 192.168.1.1 in /etc/hosts
I can't seem to find what 192.168.1.1 is. It appears in my /etc/hosts but it has nothing to do with my router.
Were these just generic numbers that were used and should I just ignore them?
Thanks

Re: How do I make the 'z' key do what the 'page down' key do
It would be really handy to be able to scroll down webpages using SeaMonkey, and maybe tap the 'z' key to go down through the page. Well the simple solution is to just use the spacebar to scroll down a page. It already does the job. Although on some web pages you might have to click the mouse on ...

Yes in my naivety I was hoping for a screen with a big button saying 'download puppy linux 4.3.1 But that would be a bit too user friendly/usable for linux wouldn't it... http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Puppy-Linux-1996.shtml There you go, big ...

Is there Sticky keys and other accessibility features?
I have been using Accessx in Puppy but it doesn't work in the Puppy 4 series because it no longer has TCL. Is there a replacement? I know Ubuntu has it. Does that mean there is a gtk2 option? I can't do without my sticky keys. Edit: ok it looks like the cli command ax still works. It was just the ...
