I did it by instaling the devx pack (this includes ldconfig!!)

Search for the following file:

devx_420.sfs (assuming you use puppy 4.2...they have all the versions though)

n8p: it does not look like you have an network interface (e.g eth0) that has been assigned an IP. When you go to configure your network via the GUI what is the interface listed as??? try typing: ifconfig <interface> up dhcpcd nooby, so you are saying that you have a connection that stops working??
