How to Switch PCMCIA Wireless Cards?
I installed Legacy OS (former TeenPup) with one PCMCIA wireless card, and I would like to try using a different wireless card. I tried switching the cards, but the network was not discovered with the new card. The system is using the orinoco driver. The original card is a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650, an...

I already had a Linux partition, so I started at step 2, as advised by the OP. The process went well, except that later on , Windows changed the partition flags, and grub was no longer shown at boot. I booted the LiveCD and used the grub utility to install grub in the MBR. Now all is well again. Lane

How to Have Dual Boot Puppy/WinXP?
I have an old HP laptop with 2 or 3 partitions and Windows XP on the first. I'd like to install Puppy on the second and have a dual boot box. Are there any special precautions I need to take to be sure I maintain access to Win XP?

Thanks, CatDude!
Another Google search (I almost never get help with forum searches) turned up another site that didn't require a password. Regretfully, the driver didn't work for me, and I started a new thread about that adventure.

Puppy 4.3.1 and nVidia Chipset
After someone on another forum reminded me of my past fondness for Puppy Linux, I downed and burned version 4.3.1 for a fresh look. With the exception of Sabayon Linux, no distro I've tried automatically loads the nVidia driver needed by my motherboard's chipset, and Puppy is in with the majority he...

Gslapt from the Menu Broke with One Use
I'm running Lighthouse Pup 4.4.2 on an old HP laptop. Yesterday my wife was away from her laptop and asked me if mine had a mahjongg game on it. I checked, and although there were two chess games, there wasn't even a solitaire on there. No problem, I thought, that's what repositories are for. So I f...

Lighthouse 4.4.2 Gives New Life to Old Laptop
I have an old HP 15" laptop that, for some years, has not been able to run any modern OS. Standard Puppy, Ubuntu, they all would gag at some point in the installing or booting process. I finally found old Lighthouse Puppy 3.01 would run on the old dinosaur, and that at least made it possible fo...

Interesting. I think I've mentioned Freegeek before on here, they're an outfit in Portland, Oregon which refurbishes old computers and sells them on or gives them to volunteers who have built a few systems with them; There is a similar organization here in Athens, GA, Free-IT Athens, which sells th...

Is There an NFS Package?
I'm running Lighthouse 3.01 and the package manager doesn't show anything with "nfs" in the name. Is there a package available, and if so, how may I locate it?

Full Install Grub Presents Prompt Instead of Menu
I just installed Lighthouse 3.01 on an old laptop (won't run newer kernels) I did a full install on /dev/hda7 so that I could install grub, which I need for multiple booting. But when I boot, the grub prompt is presented rather than the menu of OSes. The web is full of complaints of this problem wit...

Full Install Grub Presents, Prompt, Not Menu
There's something about my old laptop that prevents newer distros (kernels?) from running reliably on it. So I've installed Lighthouse 3.01, which runs fine. Because at this point I had no grub installed, I made both a frugal and a full install. During the full install I enabled grub to the MBR. How...

Dadster, I wish you well in this new effort. As soon as some donated PCs get here, I'm going to put together a small lab at the small school (80 students) where I teach. I've been collecting various kinds of apps and games that I hope will give kids a comfortable intro to Linux. I'll include a link ...
