I would donate to the Puppy Linux project. IMO, it's a great project and it's so fast and portable, and it has none of the bloat that the main Linux distros have. When I used it at first, I was like "Bleh, the GUI is horrible!" but now, I'm using it every day and saying "Goodbye KDE/G...

Yeah, I just reinstalled Puppy.

The FileSystem is no longer in a pup_save.2fs file, it's taking the whole partition (like a real linux install would).

Puppy's been running fine, and I think it's a tad faster too.

Bad blocks are the linux version of Bad Sectors in Windows, no?

Well, my save file is 256MB.

I'll keep the partition layout and make the linux partition smaller - 1.9GB is overkill. I'll resize it to about, say, 768MB. That should be enough.

FileSystem Wars - FAT vs EXT2

So, I'm using Puppy a lot now (mainly at school to nuke some viruses on the computers there) and I've managed to get it onto a 1GB Flash Drive (my 'school' pup), and a 4GB MicroSD Card (via a MicroSD to USB adapter). Now, the problem is that on the 4GB Card has two partitions (it comes up as 3.89GB)...

2 Questions...

Hey all, First Question: I've been using Puppy for a bit now, and I'm wondering if you could help me get Puppy to see my LAN adapter. According to windows, the LAN adapter is a Realtek RTL8139. However, on Puppy, it seems to not have loaded. Is this a issue with Puppy Installs? I expected it be able...

I've always wanted a SD to IDE Converter.

I have a CF to IDE Converter, but the converter fried the CF Card! It got really hot, and started smoking... Not a good sign.

But anyway, I'll have to find a MicroSD to USB converter so I can run puppy off it. Or, I'll buy a microvault.

Yeah, my BIOS can boot from a USB Drive. I just thought that I could install it on a SD Card so I could keep it always in the comp. (Instead of having to carry a USB around with me).

But no worries, thanks for your experience. Does anyone have anything else to say?

Booting Puppy off a 4GB SDHC Card

Alright, Well, I've used Puppy in the past. When it was about 1.x or 2.x (I forget), I remember booting it off a CD and trying it out. I've really liked Puppy, as it leaves Damn Small Linux in the dust, and it's quick and easy for a lightweight OS. I was wondering if I could install Puppy onto a 4GB...

Why not try Acronis True Image? It uses DOS for it's bootloader off the CD, and then loads Linux to run the Imaging Software.

It can write to FAT16/FAT32/NTFS partitions and even burn to CD/DVD! :)
