That sounds like you have accidentally messed up the boot mechanism on the USB drive. You may need to reinstall it. Thank you for the suggestion, @rcrsn51 - but I'm not sure what you mean. Re-install the .iso onto the USB stick? I've done that several times. Maybe I should ask: How do I get to a te...

Precise install in eeepc won't boot
I am trying to install precise-5.7-retro.iso onto my eeePC 701 (4G). I was able to get it running fine from the USB, but then when I loaded GRUB onto the hard disk sda1, it started this bizarre behaviour: GRUB loading stage 2 Starting up ... Macpup on VirtualBox - "session not saved"
I have installed Macpup 528 v2 on VirtualBox. The Host is Windows 7. The Virtual Machine boots fine from its Virtual Hard Disk (Macpup.vdi, 8GB). I change my settings (time zone, resolution, etc.) and everything works fine. But when I shut down, and Macpup says I should save my .2fs session file to ...

My Puppy is stuck in a boot loop
Puppy Linux is just too fragile. There's always something going wrong for me. This time, for no apparent reason, when I rebooted, it went into an endless loop: "... Patch mode 38 to resolution 800X400 complete touch: cannot touch 'tmp/bootcnt.txt': Read-only file system -sh /tmp/bootkernel.log:...

jwm -p --> Segmentation Fault
Thank you for the helpful reply, aragon. 1. jwm -p gives "Segmentation Fault" What does that mean? Just a corrupted file, I hope. Everything else is working fine. 2. /root/.jwmrc-tray and /root/.jwmrc-tray.bak are blank - 0 bytes. 3. /initrd.gz exists. I copied it to a new folder, extracte...

Lost the taskbar from BrowserLinux after selecting Autohide
Running a brand-new install of BrowserLinux on my eeePC 701. I tried to add the virtual desktop displays by usng the JWM Configuration Manager. Nothing changed, even though I clicked the "Restart JWM" button. I also selected Autohide to "On", and that's when the taskbar disappear...

Mercury keyboard launcher
On windows, there's Launchy and Keybreeze. On Mac there's Quicksilver. On KDE there's Katapult. On Gnome there's Gnome-Do. But there's also Mercury, which runs just fine on Puppy! http://www.marengo-ltd.com/mercury/ It does require the prior installation of the SDL libraries from PETget. And you can...

Re: How to put Pupeee to sleep?
I found how to create a keyboard shortcut with ROX-filer.jschall wrote: 2) Execute suspend from a keyboard combination like <CTRL><ALT>X, for example. I have yet to find the keyboard shortcut utility in Puppy.
Right-click the icon, Edit Item, Click to set, OK!

How to delete a stale file handle?
Running Pupeee 4.2 on eeePC 701 4G. All was working fine until xorg refused to start. After a couple of reboots, I have my jwm desktop, but I can't connect to my wireless LAN. The DHCP Daemon, dhcpcd, refuses to run, giving the error: Error, ath0: open '/var/run/dhcpcd-ath0.pid': Stale NFS file hand...

How to install .pup files?
Well, I clicked on "New Topic", but it isn't, really. Puppy Linux is evolving very quickly, so there is a LOT of out-of-date information on this forum and in the various tutorial documents I have read. I downloaded some dotpups following links in the Wiki. When I click on the file in ROX, ...

I don't think it exactly fits your specs, but I uploaded the latest release of Xnee here. Thanks, muggins, but you are right, Xnee is no competition for Autokey. The only near-equivalent is Snippits: http://lifehacker.com/351285/automate-repetitive-typing-with-snippits But it's such a hassle to bui...

How to put Pupeee to sleep?
I was able to find rarsa's suspend script here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1711465239&t=14467 And I placed it as an icon on my Pupeee 4.2 desktop. It works just fine on my eeePC 701 4G, and it wakes up from RAM instantly when I push the Power button. But to put Pupeee t...
