problem with Texas Instruments pci wireless card

Hi bigpup, I can report back now that thanks to your advice I was able to solve this problem. I managed to resolve this a few days ago. I have been abroad for several months and so was unable to do any more until I returned. I discovered that your advice was absolutely correct. You cannot use ext4 w...

Hi Thanks to the advice of bigpup I did manage to resolve this problem a few days ago. I have been abroad for several months and so was unable to do any more until I returned. I discovered that the advice of bigpup was absolutely correct. You cannot use ext4 with this combination as I had done previ...

Hi Bigpup, Thanks for your tips. I am running Puppy 5.2.8.005. The main reason for that is that I tried 5.2.8.7 and that does not have the driver included for this particular wireless card any longer. (which I have in two PCs). I did wonder about ext4, but nothing seemed to prohibit it. I will try w...

Hi Semme, I believe the kernel used is 2.6.33.2, but I have not checked. I am running this Puppy version on some older PCs, having looked at most of the Puppy versions and it is essentially excellent to salvage them. Many Linux distros, just as with MS Windows, are now suffering from ever-increasing...

Thanks Somme. I will try PWF. WiFi problems have been a general Linux issue for years anyway, mainly because so many manufacturers never released Linux drivers for their wireless cards.

Thanks for all of your help.

Hi Semme; I have carried out what you suggested now. I had a problem to start with as the particular PC suddenly developed a fault, and would not boot up after the start of the BIOS sequence. I was scratching my head with that one and eventually discovered that it was due to a usb mouse with some so...

Hi Semme, thank you for your reply. The weird thing is that the driver finds the firmware when running Puppy from the CD, in RAM, but if that is the problem not when Puppy is installed on the hard drive. I do not have a dual boot set-up. I am just running Puppy Lucid as the only OS. The hard drive i...

Hi Semme; thank you for your reply. What you seem to be suggesting, if I understand it correctly, is that the driver is present on the CD, which is why it works, but then does not get carried over onto the file set at installation onto the hard drive? That it seems has been a problem noticed before ...

problem with Texas Instruments pci wireless card

I wonder whether anyone can help me with a most peculiar problem please? When running Puppy Lucid 528 from CD I am able to get my Texas Instruments based wireless card (TNET1130) to work perfectly with it using the driver provided, acx_pci (cardbus/pci/usb), and encrypted with WPA security. However ...

I had similar problems. However when I tried v 4.3 of Puppy these problems were solved. There evidently were bugs in the earlier versions which have now been overcome. Version 4.3 plays videos and avis properly on my older PC and has all the common codecs included now as standard. I only have 256 Mb...

I discovered that my problems were solved with the release of Puppy 4.3. This now works straight from the box, so clearly the previous bugs have been fixed. With only 256 Mb of RAM I can play avis and videos (although there is a bit jerkiness here and there with this limited RAM). The movie applicat...

Hi, Just to give some feedback on this problem and my resolution. I was not able to burn a valid copy of TP 2009 from any of the sources downloaded. In every case I received an error message that the iso file was corrupt before burning. I successfully downloaded TP 2008 and successfully installed th...

Hi omskates, Firstly let me concur with your thanks to John. Secondly I must point out that even Teen Puppy 2008 states that it needs at least 500 Mb of RAM if you want to run it from the HD, so although I have not managed to install Teen Puppy 2009 yet I cannot believe that it is likely to require ...

Hi runtt21, thanks for the link. I have already downloaded and installed Puppy and many other Linux distros so I know that my ISO CD process is a proper one and that is not a problem. Teen Puppy looks much better than Puppy, but I have not yet used it of course. For some reason the Teen Puppy 2009 f...

Where can I download Teen Puppy?

Hi, can anyone please tell me where I can download a working ISO for Teen Puppy? The only download I can find is on Softpedia (http://linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/TeenPup-31563.shtml#) and this file is either corrupted or incomplete and will not install as a r...

Hi RJBrewer, I have followed the setup procedure but it does not make any difference. I did not make a save file and did a full install. I have tried installation several times. It is still the same. Hi Oakems, Thanks for your reply. No, you are not correct. I have done a full install not a frugal install. I have in fact tried full re-installation several times. It is still the same each time. (I have a swap partition and a Linux dedicated partition set up with Gparted, with no other OS or data ...

Installed Puppy does not remember setup, can't play DVDs

I am new to Puppy, but have been using other Linux distros for some while. I have installed Puppy Linux on an old PC using the installer, but it seems to have just replicated the live Puppy situation from the CD. Every time I start up from the HD it goes through the same process of selecting the typ...
