Thanks clarf for the support for the idea; I think I have found the beginnings of a answer. Nothing more scary than ignorance in action. I was preparing to take a stab at recompiling wpa_supplicant (scary), but it turns out that's not necessary. Searching for information on wpa_supplicant.conf ( one...

Wary 5.2 frugal install on Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop (Brookdale graphics) using i810 driver. Working well. PupCamera recognized a Canon PowerShot A610 immediately and permitted viewing of photos. A usb reader using the camera's card also allowed viewing of photos. Wary 514 boots reliably, but the tw...

All of a sudden, I could no longer connect via WPA wireless with any of the 214X's I tried. Other puppies had no problem. Far from being an expert, it took me a bunch of time trying to figure things out. The network wizard was unable to make the WPA connection. I tried tempestuous's excellent HOWTO ...

rcrsn51, I went back and tried harder. My understanding of the subject is slim, so I do dumb things. I have an old ubuntu where the printer works with a url of smb://WORKGROUP/CQ/hp-laserjet-2300-series. I guess the smb://WORKGROUP works because it has a full samba installed. In slacko, anything I t...

Using a manual frugal install of Slacko RC on a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop having Brookdale graphics and a Synaptics touchpad. The Brookdale and flsynclient fixes continue to work well, as does the new battery tray app. Frisbee continues to work well; I like the connection feedback. The wifi card is ...

I have an HP LaserJet 2300 attached to a desktop (named CQ) via usb as a windows shared printer and was trying to enable printing from SlackoRC using the information on page 1 of this thread. I had the line 192.168.1.100 CQ in /etc/hosts. and the line hosts: files dns wins in /etc/nsswitch.conf (don...

Yes, this problem was also reported for Pmusic. It seems to have come about due to the upgrade of GTK -- latest Wary has GTK 2.24.5, earlier Wary's have 2.21.1. It seems those icons were builtin to the earlier GTK. I sent a pm to zigbert about Pmusic. We need to tell him about Pwidgets also (both a...

Wary 5.1.103 manual frugal install on Dell Inspiron 1100 with an uneventful boot. Sound is fine, mplayer worked well. Oddly, yesterday, I was unable to connect wirelessly (inability to get WPA IP assigned) despite multiple tries, multiple reboots pfix=ram, but no trouble with wary 5.1.4. I carefully...

MHHP, rerwin asked me do some testing some testing during lupu development. Here is his conclusion and a followup . He determined that my Brookdale (rev 3) was yet another subversion/subvendor than other rev 3's. It ignored his fixes. Your efforts have surely been helpful to some; it just may be be ...

Manual frugal install and first boot of slackob3 went smoothly. Overall, very nice. I tried pns-tool; it connected fine. I followed the instructions about editing files. On reboot, wlan0 was re-established but the dhcp connection was not made. Should it have been? Perhaps I erred in the file alterat...

You're kind, ttuuxxx. I plan on staying around. My Brookdale graphics chips don't like the newer kernels/X's and boots reliably (on maintained puppies) only on 214X, wary and Legacy OS. I try to contribute as best I can by doing some testing on the newer puppy releases but a 50% boot rate is not so ...

insideline.com crashes
clarf, thanks for your attention. Sadly, your suggested addition to xorg.conf did not fix the insideline.com crashes; however, I will add it for general performance improvement as well as try your other additions spelled out in your earlier post. Your second suggestion of changing resolutions gave s...

Manual frugal install of top 9; booted fine. Solid WPA wireless connection made easily; connection survived reboot. Ixquick is new to me; I like the idea and after light use, seems fine. Watched short flash videos, changed theme, icons, briefly checked out a few apps, no problems found. oligon10 wro...

DaveS, your flsynclientpatch-1.01.pet works fine for me. I still have to run the flloopfix command ( and restart x) to get non-lethargic cursor movement. My touchpad is a Synaptics brand. 01micko, the Frisbee_beta-2.2-spup.pet also works fine and the connection survives reboot. The tray icon appears...
