Hello Mike Walsh. Oddly, my SanDisk looks like the top pic, but is a 3.0 version. My presario has a couple of 1 series and one 2 series usb port. Using the directions for pyro32 install to usb, the drives will boot the os. It is that the drives were stopping the boot process when they had no os on t...

My apology for the original bad assumption that there would be a problem with being able to boot a Puppy OS from these drives. I will have to try the other method as well with some other flavors to see if that works too. I went ahead anyway with #dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1M conv=sync oflag=syn...

Hello, I will try using "# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=1M conv=fsync oflag=sync". Meanwhile, maybe it doesn't matter as I thought because I dd pyro32-0.5 to the SanDisk and the device then is able to boot to the OS. (write speed about 10mb/s) Then, I used easydd to the Samsung and it to...

USB 3.0: (new).........halt boot on laptop

f10 into bios, there is not a breakdown of devices. The boot order is set as: 1. USB Hard Drive 2. ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive 3. USB Diskette on Key 4. USB Floppy 5. Network Adapter Esc to specify boot order after power on shows that the Samsung is recognized as a USB Flashdrive and the SanDisk is recog...

Hello bigpup, I have used gparted as well as fdisk. I have tried with boot flag toggled on and toggled off. I tried reformatting to ext.2 and also to fat32. I tried creating a new UUID. I think I may have tried creating a new empty dos partition table as well, just because nothing else had worked up...

USB 3.0: (New) Samsung/SanDisk FlashD halt boot on laptop

Hello, I have an HP COMPAQ Presario V3000. It boots from USB, DVD/CD, and HDD, although I rarely boot from HDD. I just purchased two new Flash Drives, 1-Samsung USB 3.0 Flash Drive Fit, 32GB, and 1-Sandisk Cruzer Fit, 32GB. Just to test out the devices, I transfered some pdf files. They both work an...

Just a little note, I plan to get Easy Linux running on the Pi2 and Pi3. Same Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus 64-bit DEBs as in Quirky 8.1.4, but Easy u...

Copy to SD - Process not completing; Won't boot - resolved?

Thanks don570, I tried it again without the boot flag toggled by gparted. The same thing occurred where the process of dd to sd card would not terminate, even after over one half of an hour. I killed the process and put the sd card in the Raspberry Pi3 and this time it booted to desktop and setup di...

Copy to SD Card - Process not completing; Card Won't Boot

Hello, I downloaded quirky xerus 8.1.4. Then, unxz --stdout quirky-pi2-sd-8gb-xerus-8.1.4.img.xz | dd of=/dev/mmcblk0 bs=4M. Then, the process never terminates. I type in the terminal (but there is no prompt yet) sync (return). I kill the process after a long time, and viewing the SDcard, there are ...

Pbackup is not really an option

Hello wert, Thanks for responding. After I find recent.1 or a mirror folder, what is the process used to restore or replace the now corrupted version with the backup? Did I miss something? I don't see a 'restore' option. I don't know how to do it. I vaguely remember on some systems there were revert...

VIM 7* ubuntu pkg - can't run in Precise Puppy

Hello Semme,
There are files in ~/.packages.
Before I had posted this question, I had located Vim files that had been downloaded.
I could not recognize the form 'vim.basic' as an executable.
I might have had it been displayed as one of the little gear icons with a '.bin' extension.
Thanks.

dd command to unmounted usb fail - SOLVED

Thank you TeX Dog and drunkjedi. Dropping the "1" which I didn't know indicated a partition on the drive, did the trick. The reason I used dd command is that I am trying to follow instructions on freeBSD install guide to put the .img on usbflashdrive. Now to see if it works. While puppies ...

dd command to unmounted usb flashdrive fails

Hello, I am trying to install an os to usb flashdrive. The dd if="" of=/dev/sdc1, returns no device /dev/sdc1 found. When I try to mount /dev/sdc1, it seemingly must be done by issuing, mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1. Just using mount /dev/sdc1 returns no such device. And, umount /dev/sdc1 does...

Multi-session CD-RW does boot w/ bootflash stick - But.....

I was trying to burn to a racy-5.5 cd with saved sessions, the same files that existed on the cd-r prior to first save. I tried to introduce the first four (boot.cat, boot.msg, help2.msg, help.msg), but pburn did not place duplicates onto the disc. It indicated that the burn was successful, but no d...

Multi-session CD-RW does boot w/ bootflash stick - But.....

Flash, It looks like that works then. Do you think someone might be able to use that bit of information to figure out how to adjust the scripts, so as to make the originally intended utility of being able to use those cd(s) on any machine while also maintaining an ongoing update to saved sessions a ...

Multi-session CD-RW does boot w/ use of bootflash stick

Hi Flash, It was created a while ago, but I just happened to try this after reading the threads on this subject. To my recollection, I made it as I have for a few of the puppy(s). I used the Bootflash Install Puppy to USB. I most likely used the default choice which is USB-HDD. Then, I go into the s...

Multi-session CD-RW does boot w/ use of bootflash stick

I haven't found the solution in any of the threads I could find. While the Multi-session CD-R would not reboot after first save, it Does boot with the use of a usb bootflash stick. The usb bootflash stick has had its syslinux.cfg altered to pmedia=cd. When the boot takes place using the usb bootflas...
