Would rdp or x11vnc suit your use case? Perhaps Xpra?

Some software can't run multiple instances in different X sessions in the same user account. Browsers come to mind.
Syncing your home directory at bootup/shutdown would be slightly different, but I think you'd run into the odd problem if you tried to run on several machines at the same time.

I think after reading all that, your main suggestion is that package managers could improve performance by using some kind of binary database format rather than normal text files. Correct? The advantage of using bash is that it is almost always available in linux But normally when you write a packag...

I've never heard of adguard before {or uguard}, but assuming it is legit, a quick google shows there have been counterfeit versions of it that build botnets or something. Perhaps you installed one of those. But renaming a disk is a surprising activity for malware... Is it definitely the same disk an...

Re: attach files to a pdf

If you are interested in "pdf portfolios" i.e. pdfs with attached files, pdfdetach can extract them. But mutool can do that and also attach them in the first place. Poppler now also has a pdfattach. Which only attaches one file at a time, and you can't attach it in place i.e. you need to ...

I hadn't seen that one before.
I'm from an English speaking country and I've never heard "gimp" used as a derogatory term - how much of a real thing is it?
Is this actually a real project, with real developers, or is it purely a "SJW" rename and rebrand?

Hi guys,

Actually, the real kde dependencies are supposed to only be optional.
I do have kio installed, and I have a vague idea I installed it because something in Falkon wasn't working properly without it, but I can't remember what. Are you guys running with or without kio?

Another couple of tools along similar lines as something like pdfsam (although less mature) i.e. non-wysiwyg gui utilities:

https://github.com/muriloventuroso/pdftricks (vala/gtk3/ghostscript)
https://gitlab.com/scarpetta/pdfmixtool (c++/qt5/podofo, although looking at qpdf now)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you misunderstand what I was asking. Pdf viewers commonly allow you to configure defaults for the viewer, and it sounds like that is what you're describing i.e. it affects every pdf you open in that viewer. I am talking about the settings in the actual pdf i.e. i...

BTW, the constant abuse of the term "right wing" is ridiculous. NZ and Australian politicians used it over and over again after the Christchurch shootings, but that guy is in no sense "right wing". He self described as an "eco fascist" and was into workers rights and so...

Well, he's right about the selection effect - I'd say that's far more significant than "online disinhibition". An online discussion of a subject will of course collect the people that care the most about it, rather than people who aren't at all interested in it. And it only needs to attrac...

Pdfshuffler users may want to note that the version some have treated as an unofficial upstream has now forked as pdfarranger , I guess because there has been a little activity on the original upstream lately. Also note that the latest version of pdfarranger uses pikepdf (python interface to libqpd...

Hi Barry, if menu delay is a problem, why not just include a separate utility like mochimoppel's speed dials, which also gives access to bookmarks?
Although maybe a faster implementation is possible - lxpanelx had a feature for this and I thought it didn't have a big delay.

It looks like the latest alternative to pdfmod, pdfshuffler etc is pdfslicer.
It uses gtkmm3 :(
The backend is qpdf, so I imagine it will do the best job at handling the most pdfs.

I'm not sure if there are any free tools which preserve page labels (e.g. when splitting or merging pdfs), or can list the labels of pages in a pdf ... What I would really like is a way to create bookmarks matching the page labels, and vice versa, and to split a document based on page labels, or th...
