I asked about JWM and font smoothing/antialiasing on the BSDGeek forum, and Joe has now added the answer to the JWM configuration page http://www.joewing.net/programs/jwm/config.shtml - click on "Fonts". The short answer is that to turn off antialiasing for individual elements controlled b...

Thanks Lobster. Now this "user enhanced" business people have been going on about - a version of Barebones that gives you a choice of browsers, office programs etc to download and install - can anyone tell me if it would be possible to put it on a CD along with some or all of the user enha...

What exactly is in 2.03CE?

I've spent a long time trying to find out exactly what PuppyOffice 2.03CE is. There seem to be too many forum threads and wiki pages on CE and related topics. Does the 2.03CE download have Firefox? Presumably it still has JWM? Is there anything else different about it, or just openoffice? Could anyo...

How to rotate the screen with xrandr

For those of you with both a video card that supports screen rotation, and a monitor that you can turn on its side, it is very straightforward to rotate your screen (so it is in portrait rather than landscape orientation), using xrandr (x reflect and rotate from memory). Open a terminal (Start, run ...

In my Puppy 1.09CE full hard drive install, the same procedure works. I figured out the link thing - if you have no /opt directory, you have to create it first, and then the command will work. Fullscreen works here, although again with a panel's width gap at the top of the screen, and small gaps at ...

Puppy 2

The same procedure works for Puppy 2, although the command to make the link didn't work - it said /opt/vlc did not exist - of course it did not exist, I was trying to create it!!?. Instead I made a new folder (Right click, new directory) in \ and named it opt, then opened up it and /vlc/opt/, and dr...

How to install vlc in Puppy

OK this is very easy. I'm starting with a clean install of Puppy 1.08 - I think they call it a frugal install - with image.gz, vmlinuz and usr_cram.fs on a windows disk. (-this works on at least Puppy 1.08, 1.09, 2, I think in any form of install) I put the Slackware package mentioned above ( http:/...

Like I say, I'll have a decent try at getting it working in a week or so, after exams, but at the moment I'm missing eight dependencies (can't show you them now - I'm not there) - did you install a whole lot of these separately, or what? - maybe you have them from installing something else, or maybe...

How to imitate the "Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar"

DESPITE THE LONG POST, THIS IS VERY SIMPLE I am just explaining it well. If you don't know what this is about, there is a screenshot below . In Windows, I've always liked to use the Microsoft Office Shortcut bar instead of the quicklauch thing on the taskbar - put my favourite programs and "sho...

VLC is the greatest

I know the thread's been around for a while but VLC really is the greatest. I will give it a go myself when I have the time, although I am also new to Linux and compiling. I've being trying to compile HPLIP for my printer, but got lost most of the way there, and then discovered I didn't need it (HPI...

Yes, thanks - I wasn't really after a solution for me as I am quite happy to copy and paste - I'm not exactly going to be using it a lot. I just thought I'd point it out as I think they were talking about a patch for or a patched version to 1.0.9 to sort out a few things, and somebody might want to ...

DotPup Downloader "visit links" does not work.

This is not really an issue, but in 1.09 the button in the DotPup downloader that says "visit links in the description" does not work... well it pops up the box asking which link, but never opens a browser. Could this be because of the change to Firefox?

Thank you everybody - that worked wonderfully. But the funny thing is that I did actually have .jwmrc-tray in /root, although it was an empty file.
