G'day, Puppy is inextricable linked to BarryK. This is a fact. With the development of 4.2 we saw this fact very clearly. So much so that Barry had to take the reins again as it was clear that it would have factured the Puppy community. The string of complaints and negativity towards WhoDo was distu...

Personalised Package Manager

G'day, I would love to maintain a repository with a host of personal goodies that people can freely access - actually there would be a number of member from the Toowoomba Linux Community who would add to that repository. But how would a Package Manager access that? And also be able to find the neces...

G'day,
Default port for Https is 443 - this is not a good port to be opened as credit card info goes through this - so it is highly monitored and therefore vulnerable to attacks.

Wondering how to change the config file to change the port to say 80; which is the port for http.

G'day,
yes it is my favourite distro!
I do have Ubuntu on another partition to test any new and interesting software - but I rarely use Ubuntu.

G'day Oh Lobster they reviewed 4.3.1. Sorry for the delay but Hols then the flu took up my time - it's a good excuse. Looking at this discussion I find that everyone loves Puppy and that everyone would love to make it a little better, and little better, and little better! What an amazing community! ...

G'day, I find disturbing trends with Distrowatch - as soon as Linux Format magazine gives a great review that distro's interest goes up. In the last issue of Linux Format doing a round-up of small-light distros Puppy Linux came out poorly with Slitaz; Unity Linux; Crunchbang; and DSL all coming ahea...

Puppy 6 out of 10

G'day, The review was for light distros. A bit disappointing really as the main issue was the limited number of programmes through the package manager. If only they knew of the awesome collection of other programmes avaiable outside of the Package Manager. BTW. Slitaz got the gong with a 9 out of 10...

File Hosting

G'day, Was looking at an puppy file which someone had heroically compiled (much appreciated) then when I attempted to download it (from filefactory) it said there were no more download slots left try later. Well I did try later and it said again try later. At other times I have downloaded other pupp...

How to undelete a file?

G'day, I was playing around with compilation when unnamed mounted files started popping up - probably a (very) corrupted source file. Well, these quickly disappeared except one which was located in /root; even after rebooting - weird. After trying to unmount said file, I attempted to delete said fil...

Games that Work on Wine

G'day, I play Dark Age of Camelot, a most excellent MMORPG (btw you do pay subscription). I have been playing this game on Puppy for the last couple of years, ever since Wine 1.1.10 came out - Mouse Pointer Issues were cleared up. There are issues playing Dark Age with the latest versions of Wine (p...

G'day,
The pets come to about 32mbs - so for an audio player I guess it's not really light - but the resources required appears to be less as I have used this on a 400MHz 64mbs machine with few hassles.
Cheers

Amarok-Lite 1.4.8

G'day, Despite the advances with Amarok 2+ I still like the good old style Amarok - so he's the packages to get a lighter version to work. TKsqlite from PetGet is needed as well.... G'day,

Code: Select all

iptables -A INPUT -i eth1 -p tcp --sport 2234 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
This opens the Port 2234 for my Wireless (eth1) connection.
