Hi stu90, I have unsuccessfully edited the files when remastering, the last time I thought everything was fine, and I got all the new pixmaps with the new theme, but strewn all over the desktop! I can illustrate the problem better by letting you view the result of 'find', as you'll see there are not ...

It may be OK, but since my USB-stick type modem ZTE MF636 wasn't detected, I just turned it off (with the computer's power button). I guess I'll wait for the next version. I usually don't use Wbar, and I was totally unfamiliar with the Wbar's icons. I think a popup text linked to the buttons would ...

Hi saintless, no, unfortunately not, not much help in that thread. I have remastered all my puppies several times each, so I am familiar with the process, but I have not once succeded in making a puppy that had all it's icons in the right place at first bootup. I know how to mask the symptoms, what ...

Icon issues when saving, remastering.
I have modified my dpup_485 with some new icon themes and their matching pixmaps, and after making my desktop look nice and saving all on closing my live-cd, the icons were as usual all over the place after next bootup, and the deleted ones also popped up again. I was careful to read some threads ...

I agree with nooby, that this is an interesting subject. I think that one of the reasons that few people take part in this discussion, is that the concept of 'security' is misused every day. We are regularly being bombarded with reports of virus attacks, made by hoardes of bandits having nothing ...

Philh, that was very interesting. Those distros you mention did not find my MF628. I shall try them all again, just so I don't make more of a fool of myself, than I already am! I only have old machines with USB-1 here, I wonder if that may be the reason, I guess I'll have to do some serious ...

"mg" is a command line editor. It has an emacs feel, and is "programmable" (at least I have a key bound to "learn and repeat" -- which lets me build one-off scripts, for a specified set of files, etc). Thank you for the information, I'll certainly look into that. Apart from Zile, which is a recent ...

davelectronic, I haven't seen a single detailed step-by-step description from you, on what you actually did to improve the situation. Even if you did not make it work, it would be valuable information for future development and for giving assistance, to know exactly what you actually did, or did not ...

I would argue that your position is not "belief", but instead an opinion based on science, observation and data. Agreed, I just used the word from the name of this thread. One point in this debate, is that whatever reason for global this-and-that, there is plenty of time to meet any problems. If ...

Sure I believe in global warming! And global cooling! The fact is, for the last 15 billion years (+/- 2years) this planet of ours has never been in any other state than warming or cooling! NEVER! We have never heard the weatherman say, that the next 12 weeks are sunny, apart from a little rainfall ...

instead I installed mg (Micro Gnu Emacs) I have used Zile, another similar mini emacs-type editor, have you tried that one, and if so, how do they compare? In general, I find that the old original commands in a terminal window are underrated, we tend to be blinded by bling-bling on the desktop and ...

Hi davelectronic; my symphaties! I have a ZTE MF636 USB modem of the type that doubles as a memory stick, that I use on a remote old linuxbox, and the only distro I find to operate satisfactory regarding that modem, is dpup485. The modem have to be plugged in after startup, and then comes up as a CD ...

Lynx , for superfast navigation up and down through a hierarchy of directories and files, using the arrow-buttons on the keyboard only, and opening a file by just clicking the 'right' button. In later debian versions it's named Lynx-cur, I use it in my dpups. It has a massive config file, for those ...

Sorry, musher0, in the heat of the moment, my outburst came out a bit on the harsh side... 8) When I clicked the download button, some 'lots of single girls'-page came up, and when trying to get rid of that, the whole 'fox just froze. That happens now and then. BTW, I run off a live-CD, firewall is ...
