What do the contents of the DVD look like through Windows? When I look out through my windows, I see trees and birds, but cannot see a single DVD content!   I've run Debian since v.3.0 for all heavy stuff at home, Mac before that, Puppy since v.2.13/2.14 or thereabouts, RedHat Enter...

I do remember seeing a file or folder (seems to me it was a folder) where I could put the sessions I didn't want Puppy to boot, but it's been years. You mean /archive? Anything put in /archive will be saved, but not loaded at bootup. If there is no /archive, you can just make one. The problem is, t...

Hi gcmartin, I have been using puppys on livecd since version 2.14 or thereabouts, I have used multisession CDs all the time and only a few times DVDs, since my old machines often did not have a DVD player. I have never had the problems you describe. I have very often had another related problem, la...

Well, that worked just as intended, apart from one small thing, see details below. I used multisession on a DVD-R disk, and made a directory named applications for Gramps, and all othe programs I want to have within reach. I discovered that updating the .gramps file that contains all data, is smart ...

This is very interesting. I have thought somewhat along the same lines, but rather than running programs from a DVD+RW disk, I thought about storing applications, along with their deps, in a multisession directory, using cheap CD/DVD -R disks. They will not be launched at bootup, but always be avail...

Thank you for the answer, and also for all your work, I'll look forward to see what the future bring. It is exiting to compare dpup_4.85, the woof-built sqsd_4.99.2 and lupu_5.2.5-retro - which is using the 2.6.30.5 kernel. I have used Debian for years, so I prefer the 'pure' deb-based puppys, even ...

Hi James C,
I see from the screenshot in the first post, that the kernel is 2.6.30.5 (i686). Does that mean it can't run on a pentium PII or PIII?

I have run sqzd4.99.2 from a livecd on two old linuxboxes: 1) AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz, 512 Mb Ram, Intergraph 19sd95 screen. 2) P4 1.8 GHz, 512 Mb Ram, Sony 21" Multiscan500PS screen. I usually load livecd dpup4.84beta4. No issues with sqzd4.99.2 when booting first time. I could include all my favor...

Hi dejan555. I have a livecd dpup4.84beta4 on my linuxbox as I write, it has been a favorite since it came, I tend to use a puppy livecd, instead of firing up my enormous Debian. I have taken a look at the dpup4.85, and I must confess that I am a bit disappointed. Apart from removing the wonderful S...

I find it very irritating that most pups don't clear out all files when a program is uninstalled. I use Debian a lot, and they have a command 'purge' in the installer programs that will remove almost all config files and libs, that often remains in a puppy. I have to use a file finder program to be ...

Kernel panic at boot-up

I tried using the 'archive' function that has returned with Lupu5.2, which is especially useful on a multisession live-cd/dvd. For those of you not familiar with it from earlier puppies, it is a catalog called /archive. Anything you put there will be stored when you give the 'save' command when shut...

You can give Pupdial a try. Make sure your modem is recognised (from within Pupdial, don't worry if there are no icons on the desktop), try having it plugged at boot and hot plugging. If nothing try the "choose" button to probe for the modem. Make sure to fill out the ISP phone number (us...

I tested no less than 6 usb modems of different kinds/carriers and no problem at all connecting with pupdial. Gprs connect is for phones. Where would you get the thought it is for 3G? I don't know if you have read the link I referred to, but the modem is a USB wireless 'memory stick' type. It comes...

GPRS USB modems failing to connect in Lupu 5.2

Hi guys. I have downloaded Lupu 5.2, it is now running off a multisession live-cd on another linux box I have. I wish I could have written these words using Lupu 5.2, but instead I use my beloved dpup484beta4-2.6.30.5 live-cd, the Lupu will not connect to the net! I hope the fact that I am not contr...

I made the ZTE MF636 USB modem work in dpup484beta4-2.6.30.5

I originally wrote this as a post in the thread How to use ZTE MF636 GPRS USB modem?, but in afterthought I thought it could be a new thread, as it is related to a dpup, sorry to confuse you all by publishing it twice! I have mobile broadband from the norwegian company Netcom, which uses the ZTE MF6...

This linuxbox of mine has a 32 bit AMD Athlon 1200 Mhz, 512 Mb ram, with USB1(!), cannot remember what old mainboard. I have followed the various recipes for d...
