Re: Why is Puppy so unstable?

I've used various versions of Puppy from 2.0 to 4.1, but I don't dare do a traditional installation of them because they're unbelievably unstable. So I limit myself to the frugal installation, because I can reboot in Windows, delete the pup_save file, and replace it with a working version that I ...

I've found the difference between the two methods you guys described:

Right-clicking on the eye gives a temporary view of the thumbnails, while right-clicking and changing the preference in the Options menu is a permanent setting change.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

How to get photo previews (thumbnails) in Puppy 4.x - SOLVED

I'm using Puppy v.2.0, and I like how the Rox-filer gives picture previews like this: http://i44.tinypic.com/219uvix.gif I've tried version 4.1 (I believe that's it--I don't have the CD on hand right now), and I love it except that Rox-filer doesn't offer such previews. It just has one image icon ...

Re: Is it possible to disable or even remove puppysaved?

Hi. I've had a few problems with lockups and crashes recently and I've sometimes had to reconfigure xorg when starting Puppy again, which is a nuisance. It has occurred to me that one answer to this is to disable puppysaved or even move it somewhere where it won't be activated, once Puppy's working ...

^ I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, but one thing I do know... You need to adjust your BIOS settings to make sure your PC boots from the CD drive *before* the hard drive. For instance, I have Windows 98SE, and run Puppy off a CD. I had to change my BIOS settings to have the PC check the ...

If it weren't for Americans, we wouldn't have TV to watch, cars to drive, or PC's to post hatred toward Americans. ;)

Can you make a version that has Opera WITH either Flash 9 or 10 operational? I love Opera, but it's virtually impossible to upgrade Flash, unless you're using windoze. :(

Thanks...I'm giving your older version of TEENpup a try, as it sounds as if it's got all the multimedia apps I'm craving!

Re: Many questions about Puppy

1. I have an old computer with a 633 mhz processor, 192 mb of RAM and a 20 gig hard drive. Can I run puppy? If so what version? I'm using Puppy version 2.00, because newer ones won't work with my sound card. If I were you, I'd try to find a friend or colleague who has a high-speed internet ...

Here's how you get that information

Open the "Terminal" program. I'm using an older version of Puppy (I hope your version has these icons in the same places). You can do this by clicking the little icon near the "Menu" button. Just hover over them with your mouse, till you see the popup that says "Open terminal". Or else you can click ...

I don't like Ubuntu/Kubuntu, either

Ubuntu is indeed a bloated monster. I can't even get it to work on my machine, whereas I can use just about every other Linux distro that I tried. It just slows your PC to a crawl. If I were to use a Linux distro other than Puppy, I think I'd choose PCLinuxOS. But right now, I pretty much use Puppy ...

If I were you, I'd either post this question to a Windows forum, or else take the computer to a repair shop for troubleshooting. Judging by the error messages you're getting, something is either corrupted in Windows, or possibly even the BIOS. Puppy might not have anything to do with it; Windows is ...

Firefox .pup installed but no icon. How do I run it?

I didn't know which terms to use, to search for an answer...everything I tried ended up with different results than I was looking for. I've installed the Firefox .pup file and installed it. It didn't create an icon on the desktop or the menu, so I have no idea how to actually find this program so I ...

.xinitrc is on the bottom picture. "~" means "homefolder", what is /root in Puppy. Mark Thanks...I thought it was a text file, which is why I overlooked the different icon. Oops.... I'll have to give this a try, but I first want to back up my pup_save file, just in case I mess anything up. :)

Or, do something like this: Click Here That's the proper way to do it, at least in virtually all the forums I've ever known. TinyURL has a tendency to be a tad...weird.
