If PupSysInfo won't run on 2.0, would Xproc give you the info you need?

A machine that obviously wouldn't run Windoze, but would also struggle with Puppy, is not going to be much use to anyone (except as a doorstop..!) If Silverojo needs a newer browser, he/she may have to 'bite the bullet', and consider lashing out some readies on a newer, second-hand machine; the mar...

Re: Which old Puppy?

Just wondered which 'old Puppy' you were using. Mike Walsh's concern that if your Duran doesn't have SSE2 instructions you'd have to use Walter Dnes' version of Palemoon also means you may be working to obtain results no better (and perhaps worse) than you already have. That version of Palemoon can...

However, I don't think your Duron has SSE2 instructions. In which case, you'll have to use the 'special' version of PaleMoon that Walter Dnes has put together for really old boxes like yours.....coded to use SSEs only. See Walter's post here . Your major problems here are going to stem from the age...

With that amount of ram. You need a Linux swap file or partition to help the ram. Do you have a swap or know how to make one? I don't know how to make one...having used Puppy for so many years, I know I should be a lot more knowledgeable. But I was a caregiver and that pretty much dominated my life...

Re: Suggestions for a Puppy for my ancient PC

For what its worth, the other day I pulled an MSI P III off the shelf (866 mhz/512 mb ram plus swap) on a Compaq 7500 CRT monitor and both Xenialpup 7.5 and Peebee's Bionic Beaver installed and had no problem with the CRT monitor. Didn't really test much but they both did a frugal install and worke...

Suggestions for a Puppy for my ancient PC

Which current version of Puppy would be good for an old computer (specs in my sig file)? The main reason I need a newer Puppy is that I can't upgrade my browsers to access sites like USPS.com or PayPal.com. Otherwise, my old Puppy works just fine for my needs. My concern is that newer versions of Pu...

OK, I tried manually installing FF27, but every time I clicked on the firefox binary, it opened my old version instead. I didn't even know I had downloaded it, but I found that I had a .pet of FF27, so I resorted to installing that. The installation went well, but YIKES...that thing devoured a lot o...

I'm guessing it could run in Puppy 2 (you on 2.15, or tttuxx's upgraded version?), so long as any dependencies can be satisfied. As long it's got what it needs to run, in theory it can be run from anywhere. I tried it, and it didn't run, so I'm guessing it needs something that Pup2 doesn't have. Oh...

I have a preconfigured firefox 27 uploaded . Its a little smaller than 30, and it does not use the Australis interface. This one is capable of high security TLS1.2 with fallback to 1.1 only. Still might be a bit heavy in Slacko5.1, but worth a try. I can give it a shot. My bank says it can use FF-2...

Older Firefox... There's a Mozilla repository that has all the older firefox versions. Just do a websearch and you should find. Not sure if Palemoon will work for you but that is a Firefox derivative running with I believe the engine of Firefox 28.0. So far, I'm doing OK with QtWeb, but I'll see if...

I'll agree with the suggestion of QtWeb. It's based on Nokia's QT smartphone technology, and, aside from 'issues' with SSL certs on some sites, it goes like greased lightning. Seriously, you'll not find anything that runs much faster on elderly hardware. This suggestion from you and Semme worked! I...

Re: Old PC, need newer Firefox

If you need to have Firefox, you will need the following dependencies: GTK+ 3.4 or higher. GLib 2.22 or higher. Pango 1.14 or higher. X.Org 1.0 or higher (1.7 or higher is recommended) libstdc++ 4.6.1 or higher. As it's taking me forever and a day to compile GLib, the responses before me are quite ...

Old PC, need newer Firefox [SOLVED]

Can't afford a new PC yet, so I'm running Puppy 5.10 on my PC. The problem is, my version of Firefox is keeping me from using sites like eBay. So I'd like to install a newer version, but I can't find much of anything. Can someone point me to some .pet files of newer versions of Firefox that I could ...

I'm sure you're right, then, because I used what was built-in. :)

OK, I'll try to answer everybody at once. :) * 8-bit, I have the hidden files visible by default already, but thanks! * Jasper, that info was helpful--I found that folder, and mine is about 77 MB. This is a mystery. I can only make two other suggestions. 1. Get the Live CD for a newer Puppy, install your printer and run a test. 2. What printer driver are you using? The built-in Gutenprint or HPLIP? The hplip_print-3.12.10a.pet from here supports your DeskJet 952C. Gutenprint? Never heard of ...

Thanks for clarifying! I tried using Pfind (I normally use Searchmonkey), but it kept locking up and hanging, so it was no use. I do back up my frugal installs every so often, so that if I mess up something, I can just reinstall the version that worked. I'll definitely do that before I start tinkeri...
