RPi4
I've built a basic system on the RPi4 and not yet encountered any difficulties (still early days). There might be some glitch with wifi support, but I am currently all ethernet and no wifi so I can't test this. For anyone who is interested, this is the sequence I followed for porting QX814 to the RP...

RPi4
I took delivery of a RPi4 today and now have Quirky Xerus 8.1.4 running. Too early to say if there will be problems but first impression is that everything looks OK. I have used the same trick we used to get alpha4/zap6 to run on RPi2. It took me three attempts before the system started correctly. I...

After you've experimented with Don570's version of FatdogARM (no bad thing to do), you can find BarryK's latest release for RPi3 (Quirky Xerus 8.1.4) here:

After having been busy with other things, I came back to the forum a few days ago to catch up and see what was new. Having arrived at this thread I found I had two new builds of Easy for RPi3 to play with - which of course I did. Perhaps the most important comment is that both builds lived up to the...

Those error codes ring a bell. Most of my keyboards are US layout but I also have a couple of UK keyboards. A few months ago I plugged a UK keyboard into my RPi3 QX814 system and attempted to switch. It didn't work. Since I had no essential reason to need a UK keyboard I simply went back to a US lay...

Thanks Don. For the record, the 11 Debian sid packages I installed were: libdouble-conversion1_2.0.1-4_armhf.deb libicu57_57.1-5_armhf.deb libpng16-16_1.6.27-1_armhf.deb libqt5core5a_5.7.1+dfsg-2_armhf.deb libqt5dbus5_5.7.1+dfsg-2_armhf.deb libqt5gui5_5.7.1+dfsg-2_armhf.deb libqt5network5_5.7.1+dfsg...

In January I made a post on page 37 of this thread saying that I'd experimented with installing the new vlc-plugin-qt from the Debian sid repository. I made a fresh installation of QX814 and installed the plugin, not really expecting it to work. Having made the experiment, I put the micro-SD card in...

In my opinion fd-arm is considerably inferior to QX814. Credit to Don570 for doing a good job on packaging it and making it easy to install. Having a save file is a pain. Installing to a partition is much better. fd-arm was designed for a specific purpose - to run on hand-held devices. I trust it do...

I fail to understand what this means. Which number[s] should be exchanged for which? We don't know the exact details for your 'Sony Bravia 32 inch smart TV' so we can't tell you the optimal settings. Read the Sony documentation to find out the full range of capabilities your TV has and then read th...

There is some problems with video playback using Barry's video app but try various settings such as half video frame size. One thing that has not been mentioned in this thread: Newly installed QX814 leaves the RPi video memory at the default 64Mb. Anyone wanting to make serious use of the RPi for v...

Optimising for readability tends to be an iterative process. One simple starting point is: menu > desktop > chtheme gtk/qt theme chooser Bottom left you will see a font button. You can increase font size or select a bold font (or both). If JWM fonts are a problem you will need to edit /root/.jwm/jwm...

If the green LED is blinking, it might be that your system is actually running but that nothing is being output to your screen. I suggest you have a good look at the config.txt file in partition 1 of the microSD card (the boot partition) and see if any of the video settings at the start of that file...

I would like to suggest a small expansion of the JWM configuration manager. There are currently six options, the one I miss is the opportunity to change, via a GUI, the fonts that JWM uses. I'm an English speaker an use an EN locale, but I also have large numbers of files with non-latin names. Whene...

The VLC built into QX814 announces itself as VLC 2.2.4 Weatherwax. It initialises with the remote controle interface. As a command line player via the cvlc interface it behaves well. I've seen that for version 2.2.4 there is now a vlc-plugin-qt under development. The traditional VLC gui available as...

I'm in the process of installing Quirky Xerus 8.1.5 on an Intel Compute Stick. I bought the bottom of the range model that ships with Ubuntu because I could not bear the idea of paying a license fee to that bunch in Seattle for their detestable OS. Wrote the QX815 image onto a microSD card, inserted...
