g2, yes, i sym-linked /usr/local/f-prot & /root/my-applications/f-prot, but same problem. the gui front end isn't doing anything. for me it's no problem as i'm not particularly concerned with this puter, & like you say if need be can run f-prot on commandline, however for people that aren't ...

not sure about slmodem, but pup1.05 works fine with ltmodem. the wizard id's my modem & suggests i download ltmodem package, (which i do at net cafe), then install, reboot & sees it perfectly. my sister's HSF modem also works, & seems to be faster than with XP. there is problem that we have puppy ...

i've also had a couple of times when 1.05 has frozen. i seem to recall someone saying they were going back to fvwm as they thought it was a jwm issue. hope not, as i quite like the new config & jwm.

not sure if this is any help to you, but i use following grub menu.lst config to boot cd from hdisk.


title cdrom
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/grub/memdisk.bin
initrd (hd0,0)/boot/grub/sbootmgr.dsk

Install VectorLinux 5.0 from iso without burning a CD

Just downloaded VectorLinux 5.0std.iso & used their vinstall-iso script to get system up & running without burning a CD. Worked perfectly. Perhaps it could be modified for Pup users?
