i have now had a repeat of the same problem. i needed to reinstall puppy to my flash drive, and found ether the same or nearly the same portion of the tree missing. i fixed it by doing a mass copy again.

thanks again, but i already tried that.

from all i can tell i really need a newer alsa drivers package, and it looks like i will need to compile it myself.

i'm taking a short break from my housekeeping so i will have to hunt up a how-to on compiling later when i can just sit here and surf the net.

i'm now guessing that i need to learn how to compile so i can get the latest drivers package on my machine.

new info did dogpile search, and found out that the x-fi mb is a software emulated x-fi on (in this case) the intel hdmi hardware. more searching found that alsa 1.0.18 or maybe newer supports that intel hardware. so i tried installing all the alsa .pets for version 1.0.20. the alsa wiz still doesn'...

it would help any diagnosis to give some more information: "a big chunk" doesn't describe the portion of the tree you found missing, for instance everything in the branch below </lib/modules/2.6.30.5/kernel> plus most things from </lib/modules/2.6.30.5>, and the directory </lib/modules/al...

the first "home" computer i got to work/play on was the atari 800. it used a tv for a monitor, and had the os on a cartrige just like the games it had. there was tape drive for storage, and later i got a 5 1/2 floppy which was a bootable drive. the whole thing was pretty useless as compute...

hmmm first off i may be misinformed, but with twisted pair wires speed is also based on the number of twists per measure of distance (it may be foot, yard, or meter). the signal to noise ratio is lowered with more twists as discussed below. this is why inside wiring of most new phone lines has gone ...

the rt2500 mod is the driver for a ralink chipset, not atheros. funny that it works.

As Barry said in the dingo alpha2 bugs thread today, the output at the console from running probepart with the problem devices mounted is whats needed. If that doesn't recognize the device then probedisk and fdisk -l (thats an L) would also be helpful You should probably try out the new pmount firs...
