changing external display
Hi, Sorry for my ignorance. I have a laptop, and I plugged an external monitor in. When I booted Puppy LU5.25, I chose a display that was bigger than the native display. That seems to be a problem. The screen refresh is REALLY sluggish and the mouse pointer is disappearing and the video is choppy. I...

Actually its a pretty small list. Most of the USB devices are only receivers, for controlling the PC. Only a handful transmit signals. Of those many are only available overseas so its not as big as it seems. I don't think this is a noob task either, but I see a need for this kind of application. I t...

I'm in the U.S. Infrared is tricky business with most OSs and Linux is no exception. That's why I was looking at the two transceivers that seem to have good LIRC support. I see no advantage advertised for Iguana or Polar, both of which are pricey, IMHO Yes I thought they were pricey too. But they se...

Which Infrared transmitter to run Puppy laptop?
Temptuous posted a good link about using infrared with puppy. I have an old laptop with limited resources. I'd like to get a USB IR transmitter to turn my laptop into a remote. It appears that an Iguanaworks USB transmitter or a Windows MCE remote kit might work. The windows plug and play devices ar...

the files you need are available in a zip file from this site. http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/marvell-88w8335-chipset-netgear-wg311-pcicard-driver/ A month ago when I was setting up my card with the marvel chipset no version of linux was recognizing this chipset, so I recommend doing the NDIS wrapper....

Vicky, when I try ndiswrapper, it says (as you say) that I need the Windows driver, so I go to windows, to device manager, find the Netgear WG adapter, find the location of the driver (Windows - system32 - drivers - etc). But it's a sys file, not an ini file, so ndiswrapper doesn't like it. Hmmmm.....

How to transmit infrared from my laptop?
I originally started using this forum, to turn an old laptop into an internet appliance. Many puppies have been able to run on my old Toshiba Satellite and given me an excellent internet experience. I particularly like Lucid 5.25 and 4.3.1 small. After a month of using puppyt, I find I am only using...

[SOLVED]Cool clock in puppy-4.2-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey.iso
Hi, I've been playing with puppies, and when I tried puppy-4.2-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey.iso, there was a desktop clock calendar similar to the Winblows 7 gadget.
Is this available in other puppies, and what is it called?

Unsecured wifi is very suseptible to being hacked. The vulnerability comes with the way credentials are handled. There are a couple types of hacks that can happen. The biggest vulnerablility is when you move from https to http and back. When you enter login information, you should be in a https, whi...

There are a lot of items that go into connecting a computer to a wifi adapter. If this wifi card was manufactured after 2003, it should be WPA compatible. From the link below, it looks like you might need a firmware upgrade in order to do WPA. It looks like a firmware version of 1.8.2 or higher is r...

Yes the sane scanner was able to see and scan, but the dpi is limited to 3200, which is not suitable for photo scanning which I do at 12800dpi. I'll have to try out vuescan for windows and see if they have a suitable driver for my scanner. I hate that HP dropped my printer support and Epson dropped ...

Next would be to add the Epson scanner, and that will be really interesting. Puppy can auto-detect many scanners. What model is it? Have you tried plugging it into a Puppy machine and running Xsane from the Graphic menu? I've got an epson 1640SU with the special backlight attachement for doing slid...

I notice that in Abiword, the default paper size is A4. Look under File > Page Setup. Thanks, That fixed my problem. I was looking in the wrong place. Good to hear that you are making progress. But I don't see how your link to the p910nd server has any relevance to your situation. It only applies if the printer is connected to a host Linux machine. Your steps clearly indicated how to setup a client on a puppy. I followed them, and they worked fro...
