I think this could be a great idea.
does anyone else do it? I haven't seen it.
as long as people are given the chance to decline (the default should be No), and people are made aware that they're sharing their bandwidth. could be really cool!

AFAIK Aria2 & wxdfast are the only two linux downloaders with metalink support. thanks for mentioning them. there's also DownThemAll! , a Firefox extension for downloading that supports Metalink. Metalink Checker is another cross platform command line Metalink downloader. it's full featured and can ...

I've been wondering if it would be possible to make a script that simplified the steps of distributing a puplet. e.g. one click or command would automatically do some or all of the following: create MD5 for the ISO create BitTorrent file for the ISO (already listing an open tracker e.g. Pirate Bay ...

Metalinks can include P2P URIs, but most clients only support regular HTTP/FTP URLs. (And so far I've only ever created Metalinks containing URLs.) What might be blocked re metalinks is the P2P traffic/protocol of a p2p-containing metalink used by a p2p-enabled client, but not the HTTP/FTP traffic ...

I think Metalinks are great for speeding up downloads AND for spreading the burden. Instead of hitting only one server, you get pieces from all over. I've made a metalink for Puppy 2.16.1. It contains 5 or 6 different HTTP & FTP locations for the ISO and it downloaded very fast for me, using Orbit ...

Make your ISO downloads faster and easier with metalink
If you used metalinks you would simplify the download process and make it faster. It is especially useful for large files such as .ISOs. On your download page, you could just have one link that would use all the mirrors & no manual process needed for users checking the MD5sum. Here's some more ...

:? Not sure what to do with this Kenny . . . Download managers such as aria2 ( See this post ) and others on all platforms use this to download a portion from each server. This makes the load on any one server a lot less. Once the download finishes, the md5 checksum is automatically verified. Here ...
