Wary and Racy 5.5, released March 3, 2013
starhawk, Update: I'm currently running Wary 5.5 and I did find a couple of cs sound drivers... just wondering if you could install either one --possibly by re-naming one of them to match your sound card so that Alsa-Wizard would find it and set it up for you. I know it is a bit of a hack, but hey, ...

No sound from HP T5700 with Wary
Hi AdrianH, Since I use Wary Puppy, I compiled RSound for you in 5.5 as a Pet package. Just download it somewhere in your /root directory and click on it to install the Pet package. It is compiled to work with the Alsa and OSS platforms, so hopefully that works for you. You did not mention what kind...

PackIt-1.1 - a flexible Archiving/Compressing GUI
It's not necessary to install rar - if any of supported tools isn't installed, it simply won't be displayed in the GUI. Greetings! I noticed that since it didn't show rar as an option until I added it. I do need it as most of my compressed files on my Win box are rared. Again, thanks for this very ...

Networking/DNS problem with Hughes satellite modem
Thanks, claz Well, that is the first I have heard of it... hardware providing a dns cache. I am assuming that it acts as a back-up to the hosts table. I would say that this feature must be considered an improvement. If there are internet connection problems, and you know that the configuration data ...

Networking/DNS problem
It returns the dns that I entered in the network setup. Funny thing...it suddenly started working using the google dns 8.8.8.8/4 as well as my isp's.(google's is much faster though) I have tested with Racy 5.5.2 and Slacko 5.5 so far and it is working across reboots. I am still puzzled that I messe...

Karl, Pup_Rescue is in fact based on Lupu 5.2.8 I don't want to state the obvious, but this thread is called: PS2 mouse not working with Pup_Rescue precise PupRescue_Precise CatDude . Anyone else having WinXP update problems?
Last month, Windows Update kept bringing up a few of the updates that I had already installed... :? Finally, I just hid those updates and left it alone. This month, my Windows updates went smoothly... :) I have found that it is really important to keep back-ups --especially since experience has taug...

starhawk,
Have a look at this set of instructions over at the Alsa Project regarding building the modules for your particular sound card. Since your computer is a 1999 model, I believe it is worthwhile including such a driver package for Wary Puppy.

Re: A simple question about Puppy's future
Christos , Take note of what Barry wrote in his blog when he announced his retirement (this time around) :) Another idea that I have been thinking about is to create a DEB package for Ubuntu, that "puppyfies" an Ubuntu installation. Because, that is what I do anyway, whenever I install Ub...

A simple question about Puppy's future
And what about users like me who have no idea of development but they want to keep using an up-to-date Puppy? I believe that Mint is the best distro right now, but i really don't want to leave Puppy (by the way, i prefer Slacko). And i don't want to stuck with an old version, i want to see it evolv...

I could be wrong, but I think I recently read posts here, that said you're not allowed to use ext file systems on a memory stick installed puppy, it is not designed for it. I am using nothing else than ext2 on my memory sticks  tallboy , I think the concern with the ext file system and memory...

How to add a monitor resolution?
Hi netfrog77, I am not sure why you have an abbreviated form of Xorg.conf unless you happen to be looking at one of the sample files, or, it may well be that a lot of the settings found in the older versions of Xorg.conf are now autoconfigured. I would hope that you could create a custom Xorg.conf f...

I have attempted to use several different drivers available via xorgwizard including all the ones for the chip set mfgr. I have always been able to select the 1290X1024 resolution; but either X will not restart (depending on driver selected) or it ignores the selected resolution (modesetting driver...

Why won't Wary_5.5 boot from my USB flash drive?
Wary 5.5 has a service pack --> Wary 5.5.1 When you open Puppy Package Manager, you should be prompted to install the update. Otherwise, you can get it from here along with an explanation of the fixes.
