The only reason to use anything other than Grub4Dos is the very rare occasion that it doesn't work. I even use Grub4Dos to boot our iMac.

I too have started several "senior" users on Puppy Linux with the USB thumb drive method.

Fatdog would be a good choice for a UEFI machine.
