There is a utility program called 'slock' that blacks out your screen and this will fool people into thinking that your computer isn't booted up. You need to know your password and practice using it, since you have to input the password into a black screen. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopi...

The only reason to use anything other than Grub4Dos is the very rare occasion that it doesn't work. I even use Grub4Dos to boot our iMac.

I too have started several "senior" users on Puppy Linux with the USB thumb drive method.

Fatdog would be a good choice for a UEFI machine.

Questions: 1) How to prepare my USB? What Format? 1. Use gparted (Menu>System>Gparted) to delete any (all) partitions on the thumb drive. CAUTION! All data on the thumb drive will be lost! 2. Create a new primary partition, FAT 16 format, and only 16 MB (yes, MegaBytes). I tried specifying 5 MB but...

I have successfully booted both Slacko and Precise Puppy from a USB thumb drive on an iMac. Not sure if it will work on a MacBook.

Edit: It also boots on Windows-type PC's.
