I solved a sound problem with Tahrpup 6.0 by blacklisting the pc speaker module/driver. Went throught the bootmanager menu. Dropdown Menu has a list of modules loaded.

On every boot up , I need to reset the sound card from default HDMI to SB 0 analog output. Savefile remembers all other setting except sound.

I had a similar problem.
It turned out that the usb drive wasn't ready on bootup so fatdog couldn't find the savefile.
I needed to add boot option
waitdev=n where n is number of seconds to wait for usb to be ready
waitdev=5 worked for me
