Actually, I need to start X Windows so I can use VNC (unless there is a better option). So what I really need is just to prevent the xorgwizard from running. I tried just replacing /usr/sbin/xorgwizard with an empty file but got an error starting x-windows. I also tried removing the call to it in ...

I needed to open ntp ports in /etc/services (http://www.ducea.com/2006/09/11/error-s ... _socktype/) and make sure it was run after network startup.

Checking that Startup script is running
I have a script in /root/Startup and it calls echo "test" > test.log. If I run it by itself it creates the test.log file, but it doesn't create it at startup. Does this mean my script isn't running, and if so what should I check?

Bonjour/Zeroconf support
@ldolse mentioned support for Bonjour/Zeroconf as done. Is this available in the standard 5.0 version? What do I need to do to run this?

Problem automatically setting the time when not booting to X
I'm having an odd problem. My situation is that I need to run with no keyboard, no mouse, and no monitor. I am running without starting X Windows since that brings up the XOrgWizard that prevents it from fully booting. But whatever I try I'm not able to get it to use the correct time. I'm running ...

When do startup scripts run?
What is the ordering of the startup scripts? What is the difference between /etc/init.d and /etc/rc.d? Will the init.d scripts always run before the /root/Startup scripts or is it nondeterministic? Thanks!

I'm using Puppy 5.0 (and can't upgrade since 5.1 doesn't work with my USB device). For our deployment scenario there won't be any keyboard or monitor plugged in. Actually it is the monitor that seems to be the problem. When x windows starts it runs a wizard to select keyboard layout and optimize ...

Puppy is prompting to select keyboard layout at bootup
I need Puppy to start up automatically but when I don't have any keyboard plugged in, it has a screen asking to choose keyboard layout. I need it to boot up all the way automatically without having any keyboard plugged in. How can I do this?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Thanks you! That clears things up a lot.

eht0 and wlan0 working automatically after boot
I'm trying to make my Puppy automatically start both my wireless and ethernet at the same time. However: - If I have an ethernet cable plugged in then eth0 will show up but not wlan0. - If I don't have an ethernet cable plugged in then wlan0 will show up but not eth0 - If I have both then eth0 will ...

Confused about implications of full versus Frugal
I'm confused about the implications of full versus Frugal. I'm installing Puppy on an SD Card and I want file changes to be saved immediately but now it looks like they are saved only once in a while. Is this because I'm doing the wrong type of install? Can I do a full install on an SD Card? What do ...
