I am hoping that with the ISO's off the site the levels will become resonable. In the short term, it sounds like we can get by, by just reducing any attachment/upload/download traffic on the Forum site. It looks to me like the forum attachments alone are quite a lot of potential traffic already (ch...

Now instead of washing my windows, I spend quality time playing with my puppy. :D genius quote! somebody should do a flash animation depicting this very concept - or at least an image. would make a cool promo slogan for puppy! edit: behold my incredible art skills: http://img252.imageshack.us/img25...

Windows programs are of no use outside Windows (unless you use emulatores, but that's not the point and can work in reverse anyways). True  What I meant to say was that the Puppyverse has a center and the Windows Wastelands haven't. At this point of time almost any dotpup will be spread via t...

i envisaged dotpups as more like Windows installer files, not necessarily limited to one repository ... it seems to me, if you put dotpup packages in one repository, and have a pupget-like interface for it, then you might as well just use pupget packages I wanted to mention that earlier: your point...

concerning pupget: it is a gui, but far from being as synaptic-like as DPDL since it has no categories but lists the tools alphabetically. It has one spreadsheet editor at the beginning and another in the middle of the list. Furthermore it contains neither detailed descriptions nor download sizes (i...

(just deleted a lengthy post as the discussion has advanced so much. My main point was that sticky index, wiki pages and DPDL should be about helping users. Forum is up-to-date but too chaotic, wiki pages are organized and categorized but potentially outdated and hard to maintain with the increasing...

I would suggest that all programs including pupgets are provided in one central place and that might be the official documentation page. Which requires regular updating of that page of course. I agree that an up-to-date and clearly arranged index of pupget packages, dotpups and unleashed packages w...

i think the DPDL is unnecessary, largely pointless, intrinsically buggy, has many limitations and many disadvantages ... but worst of all, defeats the primary purpose of the dotpup system ... i would prefer a sticky post explaining why it might be better not to use it I think I understand your opin...

alicq: broken appearance and sound module integration?
hi, can somebody help me with these two problems with alicq (0.8.8, downloaded via pupget package manager): 1. see attached image: the icq symbols cover the first 2-3 letters of the user nicknames. is that a problem of alicq or tcl/tk and can it be fixed? 2. i understand that alicq features a system...

Bump. Has anybody new thoughts about solving this issue under the current puppy versions? or will we have to wait til puppy is based on a more recent kernel which supports acpi better? i'll repeat: it's a major let down to use puppy on such unsupported lap tops because you are used to hear hardly mo...

@visitor: this is how it looks like here too, including the distortion @icpug: true, it's the same thing. but it's worth to be brought up again, since all people without a floppy drive are seriously affected by this issue. maybe some new pup will have a look and an insightful comment or even a solut...

How far along in the boot sequence does Puppy get before it gives this error message? i think the same thing happens here, so i'll answer (sorry, if it's wrong). it does not start the booting sequence, it ends at the prompt (which is accessible). i can however use a boot floppy and start the instal...

Re: just a thought
thanks for the answer!willhunt wrote:you could always use the power mangement located in the
bios I do
sadly this is not an option on many laptops as the creators limited the bios functions. on my one for example all that can be done via the bios is setting the clock and the order of the boot devices.

power management not working? (laptop, puppy 1.05)
hey, if you check the forum for info about power management and acpi you arrive at pakt's post from Sep 23 http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?p=14731#14731 and his problem: After booting Puppy 1.0.5RC on my Dell Inspiron 510m (pressed return, ie option 1),I installed G2's new wmpower.pup, ran...
