Unselfish isn't necessarily generous. (A non-negative value isn't necessarily positive.)

Credit where credit is due: there's a lot of generous work that goes into this.

I can live with occasional crashes for all the extra features. I got it working yesterday (no easy feat with the computer that I used) and am quite happy with so many options.

How to run Rockbox in Puppy?

Hello,

I want to put Rockbox on my Sansa Clip, but Rockbox isn't automatically opening, as their site suggests, and I don't know which program or commands to use to get it started.

What should I do?

The machine is 900M with about 300M RAM. It's running Wary 5.5.

Thanks, y'all. I will be experimenting with those options as I move over more to Linux.

Are any of you using Rockbox on your Sansa? What do you think of it?

LOL@Star. Nice play on server. Sick, thank you very much. Because I'm not certain about much, my main concern has been compatibility, and the strategy that you describe is the best that I've seen for that. Dewbie, it's funny that you say that because I grabbed the 40g because it was cheap, but I did...

Hey guys, Thank you all! Currently, there are two hdd's in my machine: the original 6g and a 40g that I picked up. They're IDE. The 2t that I was looking at was SATA. I didn't know about the difference. Star, extra thanks for all that info. It's a great help. I don't know what I want to do yet, so I...

Thank both of you! That's the kind of info that I need. It's a very wide and flat cable; twenty-eight pins seems to ring a bell. I would conclude that since the motherboard receptacle has been changed over the years, when I choose a motherboard for my future build, I'm not going to find a new board ...

Choosing a new desktop hard drive

Hello, I have a very old desktop. It was built in 1997 or '98. It's a 266Mhz Celeron processor. It's a real beauty! I also picked up an old laptop, which isn't much better. I've been picking up parts for these things, and my computer-stuff-confidence has been growing as I make these machines more ca...

Thanks. I read an article that gave a number of those options, but I wanted to do it with as little outside support as possible.

After more research, I've figured it out. Firefox needs an add-on that enables saving. Then, I can open it with my player.

New question:

I'd like to try a pupplet on the computer. Which should I try?

Disregard; I discovered the puppy wiki. But I wonder if it's really a discovery if it were right in front of me. . . hmm. . .

Changed MTP mode, and it worked. Thanks!

I haven't tried to load anything onto it yet. But I did check to make sure that it mounts.

Thanks for the info, y'all! I found the problem with GRUB. I was saving the files, so it was messing up. Regular GRUB with 2.17 works. By opening the CD with the media player, it worked. The 4.3.1 CD worked on the desktop, so maybe I have a file on the laptop that's problematic. Currently, it looks ...

Burn the ISO by itself. Not as a data disc! That's different. You should have an option somewhere for "burn ISO to CD" or "burn image to CD". Basically what it's doing is unpacking the ISO onto the disc. The ISO is sort of like a photo that only the computer understands -- it's ...

Sorry - I have no idea about that one. If Grub4Dos works but Grub doesn't it could possibly be something to do with the way the menu.lst stanzas are written? (ie: maybe not so much a problem with Grub, but rather something missing in the menu.lst?? That's my suspicion, but I'm not yet fluent enough...
