Yes. The file system is ext2 and I'm aware of the characters not being displayed while entering the password. I also know I'm entering the right password. So I'm guessing only a part of the password is used as the key while creating the save file?

Encrypted Pup save - Maximum password length

I'm trying to create an encrypted pup save file in Precise Puppy 5.7.1. I'm using a 33 character password(I know, overkill :)). But this does not work. Is there any limit for this?

Slacko 5.6 hangs at shutdown

Thanks micko for a wonderful new release! I do have a problem, though. When I try to shutdown or restart, the machine hangs at 'puppy is shutting down' message. I then have to do a hard reset. I had upgraded from 5.5 to 5.6. This was working fine in the older release.

I have managed to achieve this by updating '40_custom' file within 'etc/grub.d' of the encrypted OS to include the following entries. menuentry "Slacko 5.5 (on /dev/sdc3)" { insmod ext2 set root='(hd0,3)' linux /vmlinuz pmedia=usbflash nousbwait=1 initrd /initrd.gz } After updating grub, I get a ...

i have successfully managed to shrink the LUKS encrypted partition by following the steps mentioned in the above link. When I open the flash disk with 'gParted', I have three different partition now. 1. Boot partition (/dev/sdc1) holding the boot files (with 'boot' flag set) 2. LUKS encrypted ...

Is it not easier to use an encrypted 'pupsave' file or am I missing something here?

I'm not sure why I like this setup. Nothing extraordinary. But this has been my setup for sometime now.

Thanks for your replies. Full disk encryption is commonly used nowadays to secure data. Windows' Bitlocker is one example. In Linux, this can be achieved through LUKS. This becomes all the more important when using flash drives which can be easily misplaced. As I mentioned, Netrunner Installer has ...

Puppy frugal installation with another Linux Distro on flash

I'm planning to use a flash drive to install Puppy Linux(frugal) with another Linux distro called Netrunner. The flash drive will have two partitions. The first one will be a LUKS encrypted partition holding Netrunner, the second will be a FAT32 holding puppy files. The idea is to use the FAT32 ...

No, BIOS is not even password protected. I'm just worried about the logs. Some BIOS does have 'System Log' or 'Event Log' maintained. But I'm unsure if events like booting from USB are also captured.

BIOS Log when accessing through USB

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask my question, but posting here anyway. I have a laptop provided at work (Dell Latitude 6410) with Windows 7 installed. I'm planning to install puppy onto a USB and use this laptop for personal use, when at home. Two reasons. 1. prevent infecting the host ...
