US English Dvorak Keyboard okay, but...

I've searched and found a few suggestions but don't really know how to overcome this: Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib Gn2 suggests not dvorak, but dvorak is what I use. I tried Start > Control Panel > Chooselocale, but I don't see dvorak as an option. Mind you, my Puppy (Muppy006) is ...

Finally, an obvious point that seems, nonetheless, to have escaped some: most people never need to know anything at all about the Linux FHS. Actually, I have read this repeatedly. This seems to me to be an issue with the technological divide. I work in an impoverished region and there are plenty of ...

But the whole point of the original post of this thread, as I understood it, is that when a beginner looks under the hood of Linux for the first time he sees a pile of spaghetti. Sure, if he sticks with it he may unravel it enough to make sense of it, but why bother? That *other* OS offers an ...

The best resource for any KDE queries would be their own home page Rather than "customising" using an uneasy mixture of Puppy pups, Slackware repositories, alien Pkge formats- defaults to layer conflicting options - Choose Kde base, kde arts & kdeutils - and if want to develop with aid of GUI ...

I see; I get the point about Kicker. Indeed, some programs don't load unless I click the Kicker DotPups menu item first. I have a few questions about exiting KDE and even powering off. I can't. I try from the menu commands and it fails: ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't do it either. Screen freezes or ...

Forum Searching

Hi Everyone, I do a lot of searching through these murga-linux.com forums and there's two things that really bother me: The first was mentioned previously in this topic, about three-letter word searches. Especially with computers, there are many acronyms and abbreviations that I want to search for ...

Got it working, Mark. Thanks! There are some errors, but I don't really know what they mean and what's related to what. For instance, when I type kcontrol in console it tells me: Qt: Locales not supported on X server Launching Kicker in console gives me all kinds of weird messages: sh-3.00# Kicker ...

I miss Google Desktop Search - any suggestions?

I'm just converting from Windows XP to Puppy (Muppy006). Firefox is my chief application and luckily the extensions I use most are equivalent in Linux. The application I am most used to using on Windows, though, is Google Desktop Search (GDS). I used it constantly to launch programs and files of any ...

Sorry Mark, When I saw Muppy006 was available, I went for it, so now I'm running that. I have two pupsaves, but I'm already working on the new one, re-customizing it, so I don't know if I can reproduce the problem. There are two pup_saves but I really messed things up. I decided to start over ...

Alps Touchpad

I am using Muppy006 based on Puppy 2.12 on a Toshiba Satellite R15 laptop. My touchpad is a Synaptic Alps. The dotpup is great, but for Alps touchpad, the settings need to be configured manually. After installing the synaptic.pup, I found the file etc/X11/xorg.conf and change the values according to ...

Hi, I tried the mkkde thing with no luck. I'm sure it's my own ignorance about the very complicated things that are going on. When I try to launch Kicker it tells me: kicker: error while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I tried to add ...

Success!!! :D I can't really believe it myself. But I did it! I can use the TabletPC feature of my Toshiba R15 running Puppy Linux (Muppy005)! So obviously it's possible. Took a lot of trial and error on my part and a whole lot of searching through forums (mostly this one, but some devoted to other ...

Got over the xorg-sdk problem

Found a package from which I extracted xorg-sdk. Figured out where to put that and then got over the previous error. Linux-wacom compiled (if that's the correct term), and things are not so dim on this lonely and winding path. I have to admit, it's kind of fun trying to solve these problems ...

Specific Xorg Question for my TabletPC

Arf, arf! (a baby puppy greeting) I feel like I've come a long way since imagining replacing WindowsXP Tablet Edition over a year ago. I was waiting for Puppy2 to come out and so I'm back at it. Recently I flirted with ArchLinux in order to see if I could get my wacom driven TabletPC digitizer to ...

Mark, I no longer can produce the error because I upgraded to Muppy005 and redid the OpenOffice thing the correct way. Previously I believe I installed it by a dotpup instead of just doing the way you set up so kindly in Muppy. Thanks for everything so far. It's kind of fun riding this Muppy wave. I ...

Thanks Béèm. I looked back at the intro posts in the forum and found this: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Filesystem-Hierarchy/html/ I'm reading it now so that I can be better informed. My question had to do with me not really understanding something basic about Puppy, which is how it lives on a hard ...

Help sorting out file locations (esp. for OpenOffice)

Hi, (This may be Muppy specific, I don't really know.) I'm running, (big Thanks to MU!), Muppy004 based on 2.11, and I boot from CD but have have the mupp_211.sfs and pup_save.3fs file on a 10 gig ext3 partition (created just for Puppy). I don't really know what I did, but I got OpenOffice installed ...
