All you really need is the kernel with TIMER_STATS on -- that will give you the interrupt info. I think a stock kernel in Debian and such should be ok with it. I don't use a cpu module, so I don't see P-state info, either. I'll have to download a big distro! :) Hmm... it actually looks more messy t...

Hi Dougal, I just had a bit of a look-see at the source code for asapm, looks quite straight forward C code. "safecopy" is in the safecopy.c and looks like simply a memory copy. The X11 interface looks normal considering its quite a small and simple application. Unfortunately I don't have ...

Hi battleshooter, Some neat things you can do with linux, is copy an entire hard disks information (partions, file systems, mbr) into a single file in another harddisk filesystem as a form of a backup/snapshot. Use the cp command, e.g. "cp /dev/hda /root/backup.hda.bin" the catches are tha...

Hi edoc, The basic answer to your question is : puppyserialdetect -u | grep SERIAL puppyserialdetect is a bit slower than the latest puppyinputdetectFULL, and (puppyserialdetect) may be hazardous to some systems, i.e there are outstanding reports that it freezes some systems on boot, probably by not...

BTW are you the jesse credited for elspci in rc.modules ? Barry has included this usb support code also in initrd.gz such that Puppy perfectly boots off my usb devices :-) Yeah I wrote that ages ago, a fun little util. The original lspci didn't (easilly) print out the subclass field, which is how t...

I don't know about the zcat insmod method, could you clarify? Heres the exact lines that I was referring to: zcat /lib/modules/${KERNVER}/pcmcia/rsrc_nonstatic.ko.gz | insmod - zcat /lib/modules/${KERNVER}/pcmcia/yenta_socket.ko.gz | insmod - I think these are used as the modprobe call may not know...

I'm using a batch file with a script provided by Crash to boot Puppy 3.01 Retro from DOS: LINLD.COM image=vmlinuz initrd=initrd.gz "cl=root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=idehd acpi=on" Ok, looks like the kernel boot commands are in that quoted string, add in pfix like so: LINLD.COM image=vmlinuz initr...

Jesse, while I appreciate your effort, I'm very much afraid this information requires more than my very limited understanding of Linux to apply. I would note, however, that the Puppy 3.01 Retro, which generated my probe results, runs with Linux Kernel 2.6.18, whereras the modules you cite above are...

It looks like I need to fix pmount. Um, my memory of this right now is not very clear, but I don't think my probedisk and probepart return floppy drive info -- hmm, need to rethink that. So, it is done in pmount. But, I need to fix pmount to recognise that mut has returned floppy info. I've made a ...

OK. So, should I just create the folder "mut" in /usr/bin/ and extract the archive into that folder, then run the command? Personally I'd just use /temp and see if mut can be of use so that you will then see if you want to keep it around in a permanent directory. If there is something alr...

... From your fully working setup you can use the steps below to figure out what drivers are needed. This mut2 command (below) will get mut to tell you what is on the PCI bus, and what drivers are loaded there, here you should see your PCMCIA device (probably not the plug in cards themselves). It'l...

I've had a kernel lockup with the 4.1alpha6, the 2.6.25.14 kernel. It doesn't seem to happen if I am only running one application, like web browser, I surfed the net for about 4 hours without problem. But I can make it crash within a few minutes if I do the following concurrently: copy a hd partiion...
