Thanks for the tip. Hopefully this HP print server box proves durable. I previously had an ASUS RT-N16 wireless router with a handy dandy USB print server built in, but unfortunately it succumbed to bad capacitors.

I find it handy to have a spare Netgear WNCE2001 laying around while sorting out wireless issues.

In follow up, even after checking the "Share printers connected to this system" I was unable to get 7.5 to share the printer. This was not a problem with Slacko Puppy 5.7 or 6.3.2. My "solution" was to buy a cheap HP J7942A printer server on eBay for $20. The cell phones around here love it along ...

Thanks for the info.

From looking at the Mozilla ESR page, it looks like it may be safe to let it auto-update until August.

firefox-52.7.0esr-en_US-x86.pet is working on Puppy 6.3.0 32-bit with gtk+3

Upon installation it immediately upgraded to 52.7.2

EDIT: Also works on Slacko Puppy 5.7 no-PAE (32-bit)

firefox-52.7.0esr-en_US-x86_64.pet is working here.

I suspect lack of gtk+3 may have been the problem with my previous attempts to upgrade.

Xenialpup 7.5 64-bit not wanting to share printer

I'm having trouble sharing the HP 3015 LaserJet attached to my computer. I've ticked the "Share" box during the configuration but CUPS always shows "Not Shared". Does anyone else have this problem? DOH! I just discovered the "Share printers connected to this system" check box under ...

I have replaced the ancient USB printer cable and the test page prints just fine now. Funny how a cord of all things can just "go bad". :?

Thanks for the suggestions, and I love this new Xenialpup.

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the Printers section Slacko Puppy 5.7 PAE worked fine with my HP 3015 LaserJet attached via USB. Slacko Puppy 6.3.2 PAE would print a control character on the first page and the test print on a second page. Doing some experimenting, I discovered by using the ...

Per bigpup's suggestion, I've done a frugal install and agree it was much better and easier than trying to replace 6.3.2.

I have a few issues, but nothing major so far.

Edit:
Doing the Xenialpup install inspired me to fix the Windows 10 installation that hasn't worked for 6 months. :D

How to upgrade Slacko 6.3.2 64-bit to Xenialpup 7.5 64-bit?

I have a machine with a 2 terabyte hard drive.

I've done a full install of 6.3.2 onto a 900 gig partition.

I'd like to upgrade this install to Xenialpup 7.5

If I install 7.5 over 6.3.2 will I loose the data (pictures / spread sheets / etc) on that partition?

OK. I can confirm mozilla-firefox-45.9.0esr-x86_64-1_slack14.1.txz works.

I guess I'll stay with this for the time being.

I've downloaded:

mozilla-firefox-52.5.1esr-x86_64-1_slack14.2.txz

and

mozilla-firefox-52.5.3esr-x86_64-1_slack14.2.txz

Both seem to install OK but neither one will run on my machine.

Any ideas?

Re: List of supported WiFi adapters by boot CD?

I have a PC with Windows XP that uses a USB WiFi adapter. I wish to try Puppy from a boot CD, but can't find if it'll work with my adapter. I'm willing to buy a supported adapter, but want to know which one will work. Can anyone point me to the list? Buy a Netgear WNCE2001 off eBay. Plug it into ...

My case is different - I have no HDD attached and don't plan to. I want to boot and run from CD, so everything is the same after every boot. This HP dc5700 desktop runs Windows XP just fine. The BIOS is dated from 2011. I hope somebody can offer a clue as to what is going on. I tried some more ...

TightVNC

I'm running Slacko Puppy Linux 6.3.0 no-pae on an old Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop.

Where can I download TightVNC for this o/s? I'm not seeing it in Puppy Package Manager.

Yeah, it seems "awk" isn't finding the version string in libflashplayer.so, Adobe must of changed something, so I have gone back to using "busybox strings", that fixed it. It now only looks for new versions at adobe.com/software/flash/about , that sped things up as it was hanging for a long time ...

Geoffrey,

This updater seems to have broken with the latest version of flash.

I'm seeing:

"Adobe Flash update has already started...
New Version 24.0.0.221"
