"session not saved" msg at frugal Puppy 4 shutdown

I didn't have any luck with the suggestions in this thread, but did find another way to make my frugal Puppy 4 save. I edited the /etc/rc.d/PUPSTATE to add an entry for PUPSAVE (no arrows or hyphens in actual file...): PUPMODE=12 PDEV1='hda5' DEV1FS='ext3' PUPSFS='hda5,ext3,/puppy400/pup_400.sfs' --...

OO2 HD install

HD install works for me. Per directions, I extracted the .sfs to /. A couple of caveats? I have 1.05 Chubby Puppy, and OO1.1 is still on my system. The file at /usr/local/bin/soffice is the 1.1 executable. BUT OO2 executable is installed at /usr/local/OOo-2.0/program/soffice . Click on that and it r...

updated syslinux.exe works for SanDisk Cruzer and Dell D600

Same for me, putting Puppy 1.05 on a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 512MB Except that I first had to format the (brand new and seemingly already correctly formatted as FAT) Cruzer with the HP USB stick formatting utility here: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqdt/us/download/20306.html After that, ...

Zen Frog

For puppy I've been using an image that I probably scanned sometime around 1998 from a magazine (Harpers?) It's a really great piece of a Japanese scroll, I think, with the most happy, satisfied minimalist frog that you could imagine. I forgot about it for years, but found it when I dug out an old T...

moztraybiff

Another way to get a new mail notify tray icon to work with Thunderbird is http://moztraybiff.mozdev.org Seems to work well for me, and doesn't require any extra fiddling with icewm prefs file. Just turn off mail notification in ~/.icewm/preferences and let moztraybiff do the notifying. Especially h...

Depends on what kind of VPN.

It's probably all doable, but will require some compiling.

Someone on the forum has compiled the Cisco IPSEC VPN client for linux and says it works fine. Search for his post.
The PPTP w/ MPPE support (needed for connecting to Microsoft VPN's) looks a bit more difficult.

If you already have Grub it will be super easy. As long as you have some room on your FC2 partition, you don't even need to erase it first. Download the iso image, and extract vmlinuz, image.gz and usr_cram.fs to the / directory. Edit /boot/grub/menu/lst file to include: title Puppy Linux root (hd0,...

Still working for me! I haven't had a chance to really stress test it, but the new install works nicely. You might want to have the script check for "manuwifi" and offer to copy it if present (assuming that there will be more upgrades on the program). It's not hard to recreate it, but prob...

Your "directory" WAG is probably a ROX application. (Right-click the icon and select "info" to check.) It would look like an application if you assign the /root/my-roxapps/WAG/.DirIcon to it. (Don't miss the "." in that address; the icon is hidden.) [Need to fix that in...

You can use eth0 with WAG, just have to reconfigure. Download the new dotpup again. Don't click on it!! Rather, first create directories: mkdir /root/my-roxapps/WAG mkdir /root/my-roxapps/WAG/Help Then click. You should end up with files in the above directories. (Alternatively, just use TkZip to un...

This is cool. But install text has some problems. First, I think you need to insert lines: mkdir /root/my-roxapps/WAG mkdir /root/my-roxapps/WAG/Help as the first lines of the body of dotpup.sh 'Cause when I first installed the dotpup, I got nothing. I don't think the -f option of cp actually create...

Strange. It was a cut and paste job, definitely. So typo would have persisted. At the end of the boot sequence, I got an error that it couldn't set MODE (I think, perhaps RATE?) and ESSID because no wlan0 device existed. Then, immediately after, the other two values, KEY and RATE were set for wlan0....

rc.wireless is stock, from your dotpup (I uncommented the dhcpcd lines at the end) (Do you want more than this?)

wireless.conf is, w/o comments, only:

Code: Select all

    MODE="Managed"
    RATE="auto"
    KEY="somebiglonglistofhexvalues"
    ESSID="myessid"

working on TP 560z w/ DWl-G630

Thanks for posting this. I was using your earlier wifi beta fine with my dwl-650, but when someone gave me a g630 this weekend I decided to try the new package (I recall you had tested on this already). No real problems. Only a couple of small hic-ups: in the /etc/rc.d/wireless.conf, I had to move t...

RAM and batteries

You are so right about RAM and battery life. I remember when the first portable MP3 CD players came out in the US (way back...) in 2000. I had a Genica MPTrip. Had about the same buffer time as the then-current non-MP3 CD players (1 min?) and the battery life was no good. Then some genius thought to...

1.0.4 + ThinkPad 560Z: (xf86_svga; cs4237B; DWL-650) working

Great job, Barry, bladehunter, bruce b., et al.! Took me some time, but I got my old Thinkpad 560z up w/ everything running. Thanks for the great distro. It's much faster than when it had Win98 on it 6 years ago, and don't even talk about Win2K for the last couple of years. Hard parts: Default video...

don't close the project! :(

This is a great project. I just got "pupped" this week and used this to get my DWL-650 up in no time. Will try another card (DWL-G630) this weekend and let you know. Added to /etc/rc.d/rc.local: . /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless dhcpcd eth1 No changes to /etc/rc.d/rc.wireless /etc/rc.d/wireless.com ...
