I've recently been looking for an entry level, small PC, partly with Puppy in mind. There's lots of relevance to the hardware goals of this thread, so here are some links and pics to things I have spotted. My general targets are: (1) $200-$300 USD for a complete system less monitor and OS. (2) Small...

Here are some supplemental notes to the summaries of this thread already made by Flash and Barry Linux Manual Drive Mounting (thread responses, multiple in some cases) 1. Initial impression - confusion and/or dismay to some degree (7), OK (none) 2. Later impression - some understanding (7), needs qu...
Mahjongg
Are there any good Mahjongg versions that play well in Puppy? I started a Google search but got lost in the various library and distro distinctions.
This one looks interesting: http://www.lcdf.org/xmahjongg/

Puppy mounting drives
Would it be indelicate of me to ask about Puppy mounting drives? For a Linux newcomer drive mounting is not an arousing task. Curiously it is not consistent - I can run an audio CD or DVD from Gxine by simply selecting the format from the Gxine menu, and no need to manually unmount. If Puppy is runn...

Thanks for the V1.0.3 driver activation offer. I don't mean to pile another request on your plate, but hope that the info does contribute to the Puppy knowlege base. I have now had a chance to try V1.0.2 on three recent Via-based motherboards, each with a slightly different chip configuration. All t...

There seems to be a partial remedy. There is an ongoing thread in the XNview Unix forum about full screen behavior. It is apparently a bug, with somewhat inconsistent behavior depending on distro. The only thing which worked for me under 1.0.2RC IceWM was Ctrl-Q which quit the program but left the r...

Well, Puppy responds to his master's voice. The audio began working after the following steps: TEST SEQUENCE Boot Test MP3 CD in MPlayer - no sound run # lsmod - no audio drivers shown loaded run # modprobe via82cxxx_audio Test MP3 CD in MPlayer - sound now working run # lsmod again - now shows via8...

Possible help tool for Puppy
The following tool may be of interest for Puppy's internal help files and as a possible alternative to Puppy's Didiwiki prog. It is basically a self-contained, self-editing XHTML file with wiki and blog characteristics. It seems to fit into Puppy's thin and innovative philosophy. The original: http:...

Restoring device drivers on V1.0.2x
I lost the sound on two computers when I switched from V1.0.1 to 1.0.2RC. I followed the help steps, but have gotten stuck at the # insmod step as described below. I first ran the Hardware probe script from the Control Panel menu and found that the on-board sound chip was "detected" but no...

Thanks for the instructions. I installed it and ran a few tests. The appearance is a little dated (the Linux version uses a Mosaic library) but it seems completely functional, with one exception. I scanned a CD which had about 1000 small jpgs and the thumbnails came up fine. One of the nice features...

AhHa. Thanks for looksee. If you can give me some installation pointers, I'd love to give it a spin. I am quite familiar with the Windows version. Hope that the Linux version is useful enough to deserve DotPup treatment. Regarding digital camera progs, the best package for casual users is Picasa2 wh...

Puppy's distinctive features
This is my first post on a Linux forum. I've browsed several live Linux distributions in the past, but Puppy is the first one which actually looks like a keeper - at least for for my prospective interests. In fact it looks so promising that I am even hoping to set up a couple of Puppys for non-techn...
