Hi Fred , Sorry for the late reply. Got bogged down with other work tasks. Sounds like there's a lot of history, legacy, and politics in regards to the beginnings of XenialDog. In any case, many thanks to all those involved in whichever way. It's pretty solid. So in regards to the problem of mountin...

Fred , thanks for the suggestions. I think they've worked, and I think, yes, essentially it was boiling down to ownership and permission issues. That's basically what I thought, but I didn't really know what the proper owning and permission should be to set it straight. Are you the sole author of X...

Thanks guys. Fred , slim is not a bad idea at the end of the day. Looks cooler too. ;-) Ok, so I've just done rufwoof's simple suggestion for now and did a simple root password change. However, now I've got a bit of a secondary problem. I orginally gave "myuser" the default permissions tha...

Fred and Rufwoof. Thanks for your replies. Worked like a charm, and it's exactly what I need. So I guess that begs my next question, to change root's password from the default "root", can I just do that via command line like I would in any other ubuntu/linux distro? I am asking before actu...

Always log in as "myuser" and always ask for password?

Hi all, I don't doubt somebody has already asked this, and/or maybe this is the wrong thread to ask it, but I've created a new user with "sudo" privileges. Let's call him "myuser". Now I know Puppy (and Puppy-esque) OS's operate in "root", but in Xenialdog's case, is it...

Re: .debs In general, I would think that Tahrpup is Ubuntu is Debian. I know better now of course but most reviews I had seen of Tahrpup some months back when I was considering trying it out seemed to conclude that Tahrpup handled .debs well. The truth is that the authors of the Viber app haven't re...

I've also tried Viber via wine now. The installer worked but I believe the .exe was still complaining about libraries.

I've found a tar ball packed up for Slacko. Haven't tried it yet though. Now is a tar ball a tar ball (self contained)? Or would a tar ball aimed at Slacko not work on Tahr?

Thanks drunkjedi but, in this case, I was referring more to apps not necessarily already stock in a Puppy install. (I know I mentioned pfind--bad example.)

I'm mainly looking for pets to install after the fact.

Looking for a list of the "p" and "pup" apps

Hi all,

I'm looking for a compiled list of all the "p" and "pup" apps. I mean those Puppy specific written apps.

For example:

1. pupshutdown
2. pupmenu
3. pfind

I don't doubt that such a thread must already exist in this forum. Is anybody able to point me to such a list?

New error message now. It's a long error message so I can't make the screenshot legible at 600px width. Have it as an attachment.

Ok guys, so a little follow up on this. Downloaded the .deb package again. Extracted it. It basically dumps into a folder in the exact location where you extract it. Went to the "Viber" file. Got the same error as the original post. Symlinked the "libs" folder into /usr/lib as pe...

Thanks guys. So as I understand it, there could be two problems: 1.) Missing libraries (because Puppy is light weight and doesn't always include all libraries that a distro like Ubuntu does). 2.) Libraries are actually there, but this is a package aimed at Ubuntu, and Puppy simply has a different fi...

How to install Viber on Tahrpup?

Trying to get viber (an Ubuntu .deb file) to install on Tahrpup64 6.0.5. Nothing happens when I click on the icon after the install. This is what terminal reads. Sounds like it's missing this "xcb" plugin or lib, but what is that? A more general lib or a plugin specific to Viber itself? I ...

You got any SFS packages loaded? You mean ones that I made? Or just loaded up into my OS? I haven't made sfs files yet. I used to struggle a lot with Windows. That was one of the reasons I abandoned it. It was picky, some ".dll" file would always be missing, a lot of freezing, viruses, li...

Haven't unsquashed and squashed an sfs file yet, but I can try this when I get the chance.

Lol Musher0. Can't remember where I got that particular sfs from. On the new (i.e. today's) installation, I also had trouble unloading it initially, in order to test it. I could only unload it after a reboot. Theoretically I can keep the Skype sfs and just unload it on the rare occasions I need to d...

Dudes, I appreciate all the help but I found the problem. I burned a full day building up a new installation, and I finally narrowed it down to... skype-4.3.0.37.sfs When I unloaded the sfs file... boom. The resize app worked again. Went back to my old installation. Did the same. (Unloaded the sfs f...

It's been pointed out to me that a very important detail here is that my savefile is encrypted.

Is there built-in software in Puppy to decrypt it so I can work with it?
