Solar powered

I have a small solar array here in Missouri U.S.A. It's about 200 watts, and it keeps my battery pack charged for night time use in my shop. I switched all the lighting to CFL or florescent, so as to not use so much power. I plan on increasing to about 1/2 KW so I can run other items. I have had the...

re-puppy linux on an old machine

I have also found that a lot of those old PC's have bad CD drives.
I would try a known good CD drive and see if it will boot then.
OR:
Could be a bad IDE cable.

Sometime Puppy doesn't like "cable select" on the jumper settings.

More RAM would help though.

Just my 2 cents worth.

re-finding CD drive

If you have 2 drives, try putting your puppy disk into the other drive.

I have done this with good results.

I hope this helps.

re-no CD drive

The easiest way would be to replace the bad CD drive.

But, you could create more than one user partition.
One for one version of puppy, another for any puppy upgrades, and a data partition(for storing things you want to keep).

This might be an option for you.

I hope this helps.

I am running several different versions of Puppy on these laptops: puppy 4.0.0, 4.1.1, 4.1.2 I have had several laptops that load sound card drivers, but don't seem to work properly. Try plugging in a set of headphones or ear buds. The sound card works just fine, but I can't hear it through the spea...

re-CF drive

Check your CF adapter for a jumper, and set it to master.

Make sure your CD drive and your CF drive are not on the same controller.

Just my 2 cents worth.

re-CF drive

Did you use gparted to set the boot flag on your CF drive?

Your system doesn't see a bootable drive without the proper flag set.

I hope this helps.

I always copy my data to an external drive, and do a clean install.
I have better luck this way.

re-booting eee901 from USB flash

Did you use gparted and set your flags to boot on the flash?

If you didn't it's not being seen as a bootable drive.

I hope this helps.

USB drive doesn't work?

If you have a flashcard reader in your tower, try unpluging it from the mother board.

I had a problem like yours and this was the fix.

It seems the card reader was shorting out the USB bus.

Anyway: My 2 cents worth.

You might purchase an adapter and remove the laptops hard drive, and put it in a PC . Use the CD rom drive to install puppy on the laptop drive, the put the drive back in the laptop and boot puppy that way. I have done this several times with success. Here is a link to get the adapter: http://www.ge...

re-uninstalling old OS

You could boot into Puppy and use Gparted to reset the partitions and format to the desired file system, then install Puppy to that drive.

I have an EEE, but I left the original OS (XandrOS) and just boot from an SD card for Puppy.

I hope this helps.
