Re: Tux Type Issues (above)

Issue (1) above has been fixed in version 1.8.0. Reference:
https://alioth.debian.org/forum/forum.p ... p_id=31080

Perhaps issue (2) is related to available fonts.

Tux Type issues

I added the above packages to Puppy 431 mainly for Tux Type and had the following issues: (1) After a few minutes of use the program crashes with: [1]+ Segmentation fault /usr/bin/tuxtype The behavior has been duplicated on three PCs and can be most quickly duplicated by running "Fish Cascade&q...

It seems unlikely that you have the same problem. Puppy 4.3 appears to have squashfs tools version 4.0. The problem above was corrected in version 3.4.

Rosewill RNX-G1 USB wireless adapter

The RNX-G1 is an inexpensive (USD 15) USB wireless adapter with an external antenna which can be replaced with a larger / remote antenna for better reception. Good idea. Please find attached the binaries for squashfs-tools version 3.4. There were compiled on Puppy 410. The mksquashfs version 3.4 correctly handles sparse files. Under version 3.3 which is included with Puppy 410 the mksquashfs command will hang under certain conditions if sparse file are en...

Problem solved: The problem was caused by a mksquashfs version 3.3 error in handling sparse files. There must have been sparse files among those that I added because mksquashfs version 3.3 succeeded when run with the -no-sparse parameter. To get a clean remaster I downloaded squashfs version 3.4 fro...

Raffy, thanks for that reply. I have tried to save to RAM, flash (vfat) and HD (ext3) with the same result. In each case the mksquashfs command stops at file 7262 of 15206. I added the '-info' parameter to the mksquashfs command to get that information. I also excluded the directory which contained ...

On two different PCs my attempt to remaster Puppy 4.1 stops early in the process when the pup_410.sfs reaches 75162633 bytes. The only modification to my Puppy install was the addition of about 125MB of files in /opt and some symlinks from /usr/lib and /lib to file in /opt. Below is the info reporte...

Beem, thanks for that response. I did see this thread: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=869988618&t=34839 which seems to indicate that a pup_save.2fs file can be included in a Remastered CD. Perhaps I should find and start the "Remaster Puppy Live-CD" script in ...

With Puppy 4.1.0: Successful remaster attempt: 1- I booted puppy with "puppy pfix=ram". 2- I added a few packages and other changes. 3- I ran Menu > Setup > Remaster Puppy Live-CD. The ISO was created successfully. Failed remaster attempt: In step 1 above I did not use "puppy pfix=ram...

growler,
I installed your version of openssh-5.1.pet on Puppy 4.1 but sshd did not start due to this error: "Missing privilege separation directory: /var/empty". After adding /var/empty everything worked perfectly.
Thanks, BH

Howto: PostgreSQL 8.3 on Puppy 4.1

This install is relatively easy but fairly large. This may of interest to those who want to run a major database on Puppy for say testing or to take advantage of Puppy's significant portability features. The pup_save.2fs was < 110MB after installation. (1)- Download postgresql-8.3.4-1-linux.bin from...

I really like the Desktop Drive Icons feature of the Event Manager. Having an icon appear when a USB flash drive is plugged in is a great feature especially for novice computer users. However: I really do not like that an icon is available for the drive that contains the pup_save.2fs file and sfs fi...

Some comments on my suggestion: Say I (you) had a computer that was used with both another OS and the Puppy CD (with sessions saved to the CD or to a pup_save.2fs). Say I (you) did not want to install GRUB or alter the MBR on that computer. If the Puppy CD had a start option like enter "hda&quo...

LiveCD "Boot from first hard disk" option

Suggestion: It would be nice if the Puppy "Live CD" had an option to "Boot from first hard disk". This covers the case where the CD has been left in the computer either unintentionally or intentionally.

straypup,
Can you post the version number of Puppy you are using and the version number of your TEW-424UB. You can find the TEW version number on both the hardware and the CD. My TEW-424UB is version 3.0. With this version the drivers are not included on the CD except within the setup.exe.
