Yes, the reason for using it is to install the Brother DCP7030 driver. Brother only provides a 32 driver version for the printer component of this multi-function device. The scanner driver is provided as 32 bit and 64 bit versions though. Thanks for doing this. I'll test this in fd-64600B1 over the ...

@rcrsn51

Sorry it was a PET package not a DEB you made - silly me!

Thanks for the prompt reply and the offer to rebuild it for FATDOG.

Best regards

Problems with starting the Puppy Package manager

When starting the Puppy Package Manager I get the following error dialogue:
GTK-server Error!
ERROR: No value entered where "gtk_tree_store_append" expects one!
It happens when attempting to refresh the package lists. Anyone else seen this?

Another awesome FATDOG. Running very well on my hardware. Is it on Distrowatch yet? If not, it ought to be. ATI Radeon HD 6450 video driver ran out of the box. Neither the latest Ubuntu 12,04 nor Linux Mint 13 does this. Maybe the 3.4 series kernel is the reason. System using only 300MB memory with ...

Google Drive

I've been trying to set up a Linux client for Google Drive only today as it so happens. As you may already know, there exists no official Google Drive client for Linux as yet - it's being worked on as we speak. The idea is that you can sync your Google Drive files with a local folder on your PC. In ...

Just been playing with the latest Precise Beta 5.2.38 released earlier today. Another li'l beaut. Like its Upup predecessors nice and snappy! Just as with Ubuntu Precise Pangolin itself the ATI video card causes grief - nothing new here. With ATI graphics under Linux you have two choices. Either ins...

Open Source J. S. Bach - Goldberg Variations

Here's a new concept in Open Source thinking - the music of J .S. Bach no less. I have just legally downloaded the complete Goldberg Variations from here: http://www.opengoldbergvariations.org/ and it is great! Here is a quick review of the recording, which you can download as a series of MP3's from...

Yep, got it - thanks Pemasu. FGLRX compiles OK now.

Simple patch here for anyone who needs it:

Nice Version! Having trouble with the ATI Radeon 6450 driver. This has been the case with recent Puppys, but have so far managed to work around the problem by compiling the proprietary driver from the ATI website. I can't however seem to be able to get an error-free compile using this Upup. I'm usin...

Been trying out Lupu-528 005. Very fine work from Micko and the others. I always keep coming back to this puppy version - it's so pleasant on my system here. As with other current-series Puppys, this version doesn't like my ATI Radeon 6450 video card (neither do the bigger Linuces). There appears to...

The ATI Radeon open source driver looks as if it's broken for Racy 5.3 at least. I tried to compile the AMD proprietary driver in Racy - no go. Looks as if the kernel used here needs a specific patch in order to build the fglrx module. I then had a go with Wary. This time the module built and ran OK...

Better news with Frisbee. Seems to be working - and remembered over reboots. The original problem may have been due to missing rtlwifi firmware that seemed to disappear from /lib/firmware when I downgraded to the k3.1.10 PAE kernel using the Saluki Custom Builder (due to the regression concerning co...

CUPS in Saluki

Haven't been able to get CUPS printing to work in Saluki In the default CUPS 1.3.11 version, there was no access to the CUPS interface at localhost:631. The interface was visible but was inactive. I then downloaded and compiled the latest stable CUPS 1.5.2 from their website. This compiled OK, but I...

I've been trying out Saluki 017 yesterday. Here's the story, first the problems. Frisbee has never worked for me in other Puppy variants. In the case of Saluki, neither Frisbee, Barry's Simple Network Manager nor Network Manager would work. I had to therefore configure the rtl8192cu WLAN set-up manu...

I doubt if "right" could ever be achieved in the distro-building world. Even if both Jemimah and Iguleder came up with perfectly "right" concepts, their time of existence in the "right zone" would be finite i.e. limited to a certain time period. Distros are always evolu...

@greengeek Yes indeed, you could look at it like this: Puppy = Core + A Collection of GUI Wizards = Core + CGW as an abbreviation There's no point in providing just a core and then saying to the user "go and install your own stuff" a la Arch Linux. Puppy needs to be fundamentally friendlie...

It appears that the power-off and reboot menu options in JWM don't work. Maybe it's a kernel issue. Anyone else got this problem?
