lostdog You are a man amongst men. That page of ESR's is pure gold ... unfortunately people's egos too often get in the way. .......... And as for ESR being a little touchy .. well, I can imagine that his touchy/feely side got to the burnout stage some time ago from people trying his patience. Remin...

eppoh, Since it is now the 2nd of April, I feel a little more secure posting a reply. As I understand it, you wish to install Puppy to the HDD using it's own linux partiition. Obviously, since puppy is such a small distro, it has no tool included in the default CD to make room on the drive. HOWEVER,...

Mark, In both cases, the return statement in the terminal after I had to kill the application was "broken pipe". (assuming that this had nothing to do with my kill .... ) When I modified the environment / exported the variable, I got a bit further before the application froze and had to be...

Tuxcards Crashes in JWM

Installed Puppy 108 on a partition other than /dev/hdb10 ... Found that Tuxcards still crashes in JWM and is unuseable. My previous experience is that it is fine in other window managers.

Sage, Some topic drift, but ... You just raised a point I've been wondering about .. hidden partitions. Can you image / copy them onto a DVD or make them visible easily? The little I've done looking at the one on my laptop hasn't borne fruit .... though I've only been looking at it with QTParted. Th...

Whilst I've found the discussion on wiping / cleaning / zeroing the HDD interesting, and have been taking notes, I read the original request as one to manipulate the partitions on the disk (even though the term "wipe" was used). I thought the aim was just to eliminate a small ntfs partitio...

What I use, is the QTParted program from a Knoppix CD.

QT Parted is like a free clone of Partition Magic. It should do what you want.

Don, It's not that people WON'T answer, it is just an area of Puppy that is, shall we say, underdeveloped. I got enthusiastic about trying to crack it a few months ago, but life got in the way and I haven't been back yet. The xpdf home page has somewhat cryptic documentation as well. When you have s...

donde, Since no-one has answered yet ... there is a previous discussion on this on the board - I had a look for it but got lost and then life took over, but in it someone had success with the setup you were using and xpdq. I suspect success involves a correctly setup host file and, of course the cor...

Install to hdb10 fails

For some reason, the HD install script still fails to install Puppy to /dev/hdb10 in a type 2 install. This is common to the last few Puppy versions. It fails when a filesystem creation on the partition is attempted and complains that it can't fiind the partition. Guess I'll just have to choose anot...

Lobster, Came upon this thread doing searching about network printing in Puppy ... As far as alternative distros are concerned ... Babbs, Yes, when I see questions like this, I see how things can go wrong very quickly and the end user just throws up their hands and abandons Linux. Novell did a survey recently about which programs people would like to see ported to Linux - I think Photoshop came out on top, or amongst the top th...
