Puppy versus Nvidia Geforce? (SOLVED)

So I can't load puppy on my main comp - after I try the Xorg or Xvesa thing, it just stops doing anything, and does this prompt-like thing.

Normal?

Bruce B wrote:If there are no files on it you need to keep, you could boot with the puppy pfix=ram option and verify the filesystem ID is 83, you can use cfdisk for this.

Then format it as an ext2, which is Puppy's default filesystem.
Thank you! I'll try that.

I can't see why a USB network adaptor wouldn't work with this machine, by the way what make and model is it. It's a Gateway Astro that I gor for free (with the following specs, although I changed the hard drive out for a 10GB). It has no slots for adding any cards. It does have four USB ports ...

USB to Ethernet Network adaptors recognized by Puppy?

SO this computer I want to set up for my daughter has only USB ports and no Ethernet. No way to put one in, either.

Do y'all think if I bought a USB to Ethernet network adapter could be made to work? Otherwise maybe a USB wireless network adapter?

It should be ext3. The operating system previously on this machine was Damned Small.

hda1 listed twice on hardrive when trying to install?

Hi there - now putting Puppy on another computer, but loaded live CD, and when I started the universal installer, it lists hda1 two times - ones as ext3 and once as SFAT. Clicking on either does nothing..... any thoughts?

Thank you for the suggestion to update to the newer Puppy - in doing so, it now picks up my wireless card. Yahoo!

Elsewise, are there any browsers in Linux that have the uber handy "check for updates" option?

As a larger question, this has me wondering how easy/complicated it may or may not turn out to upgrade to new versions of Puppy when they come out.....

How to update SeaMonkey OR install Opera? (Solved)

Okay, so I put Puppy on an old machine that I got for free at work. My intention is to use this computer as my 8 year old son's first desktop. I really want him to grwo up tech-savvy, and I don't want him to grow up thinking that Windows is the be all/end all of the desktop world. At first, I really ...

Opinions wanted: Is Puppy only for older/low-power machines?

This is a serious question from a very new Linux user who is still in the "all freaky excited phase". I put Puppy on an old machine for my son - my lovely wife checked it out, and just about peed her pants, she was so excited. My original plan was to put something larger on the computer that I am ...
