How to configure latest fluxbox on puppy 3.01 NOP?
I'm running an HD install of Puppy 3.01 NOP, and thought it'd be fun to use fluxbox for awhile. Has anyone been able to manage this? I couldn't get the 1.0 fluxbox dotpup to work, but I got the earlier version (0.9 something) working, only without menus. Is there a relatively easy way to import my ...

offline dictionary for puppy 3.01?
Hi everyone, I've been having difficulty finding an offline dictionary that will work with Puppy 3.01. I've tried some of the StarDict dotpups, but they launch Dillo whenever I enter a word, and then crash. I've also tried PBDict but can't seem to get it to work. Any recommendations for a dictionary ...

So I ended up getting frustrated trying to tweak files within the initrd.gz, and decided to do a full HD install just as an experiment. Much to my surprise, it runs a whole lot faster. What used to be a 45-second load time for Opera is now 6 seconds, and what used to be 20 seconds for Abiword is now ...

Later versions of Puppy use more memory, that makes sense. But according to this chart the memory used by Puppy 2.15 was still more than I 128M, and it loaded in RAM fine (presumably with the help of the swap drive). My problem is that my 3.01 NOP isn't loading into RAM. True, vanilla 3.01 is pretty ...

loading into RAM on a 128M RAM machine?
So I just upgraded from 2.15CE to 3.01 NOP on my little laptop with 128M RAM. The problem is though, although the new version is tons more functional and much prettier, it's really sluggish in comparison. I'm guessing this is because it isn't loading into RAM. I looked on Barry's howpuppyworks.html ...

NOP is the best thing ever. I'm way impressed with the icon improvements especially. I've been trying to build a custom puppy with XFCE and Opera for days now and it's broken three times and still come out ugly in the end. It makes me infinitely happy to have found a ready-made version that fits ...

sfs installing problems
I'm having difficulty installing an SFS package of goffice (abiword &tc) under Puppy 3.01 NOP. I followed all the instructions I can find, which all seem to say move it to /mnt/home and then reboot, but this didn't seem to work, because there's no menu entry and it won't respond to my calling the ...

Custom Puppy can't find pup_301.sfs
So I built a custom puppy, and everything seemed to work, except now when I boot up it says Loading kernel drivers needed to access disk drives...done Searching for puppy files in computer disk drivers... pup_301.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console and then exits to a console. But ...

Great! Is there an explanation somewhere for what each of these packages is / does? (the ones here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-3/)
Update: OK nevermind found it in ~/.packages/packages.txt

How do I create a custom puppy?
Here's my idea of a dream distro: something that's really small, doesn't contain any unnecessary program, loads entirely into 128M RAM, and runs XFCE, has abiword, seamonkey (or opera, whichever is faster) and all my necessary drivers (like the ath_pci to power my wifi card). I figure the best way ...

Seamonkey loads painfully slowly under 3.1
I recently upgraded to puppy 3.1, and as far as I can tell everything seems to be working pretty well, except for the fact that Seamonkey takes ages to load. Anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. What's strange is that it doesn't seem to be performing many hard disk read/writes during this time, it ...

Uninstalling Programs
So I have a pretty beefed-up puppy, now that I've installed other window managers and a whole bunch of bells and whistles. I feel like it runs a little slower than before, since I figure it has to load all kinds of new stuff into RAM. I'd like to figure out a way to make it faster, and I think maybe ...

strange clock behavior
This may be a hardware problem and have nothing to do with puppy, but I've been noticing my clock changing itself every so often. The strange thing is, it doesn't seem to be arbitrary but rather in whole hours, like it'll be 5:53 all of a sudden when in reality it's 2:53, so this leads me to believe ...

Question about standby and hard drive health
So I'm pretty new to linux and love puppy on my little old laptop. I especially love the standby time, because I often put it on standby and under ubuntu or Win2k it sometimes took a good 30 seconds to fall asleep and another 20 or so to wake up. Under puppy it goes to sleep instantaneously, and ...
