Thank you npierce, Sadly an upgrade to 5.4.2 made no difference. I took a look at the bug fixed post and I tried to create the symlinks (I even copy/pasted the script to make sure) but the result was "no such file exists". I'm going to retry the command line on the updated version, I'll let you know ...

icons and text gone from desktop (SORT OF SOLVED)
Hello All, I hope this post gets through. I was downloading soundconverter via ppm on my Precise box when all the text letters were replaced by outline rectangles. The desktop is the same and the icons are now yellow warning triangles. The background is as normal and I can use the menu etc from the ...

Hello Folks, My apologies for the gap in communications, very busy with one thing and another. Yes, thank you, the ponies, horses, sheep, goats, llamas, donkeys and the one old alpaca all weathered the storms safely. Re: The colour cast problem. Yes, it's an ATI card. No, resolution was set to 24bit ...

I was just getting ready to re-install Lupu or try Precise when I decided to play about a little more. By altering (dramatically) the saturation and brightness on the desktop settings and with much juggling of the gamma set-up I have arrived at a useable screen. I'd still be grateful for any input ...

Hello again Semme, Busy day today, bad storm yesterday, another one coming tomorrow. Thank you for the script, I used both versions but ended up running fsck manually. I fixed all the problems that were presented to me but there is no change. Fiddling with the Gamma still leaves me with a colour ...

Hello Semme, Thanks for the input. I shifted all the xscreensaver stuff from /usr/bin to /temp when I got the problem although there was no problem until I ran Xorg video wizard. I checked xgamma and got Red 1.202 green 1.000 and blue 1.000. It's a full installation Ext 2. I'll do fschk tomorrow, it ...

colour cast on monitor after using Xorg wizard SOLVED????
Hello, Lupu 528 with Xfce4. Very pleased with it. I was trying to get xscreensaver to work after downloading the Debian packages. The result was a black screen and the message: Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0". I checked the config and load GLX was present so I tried Xorg video wizard ...

importing mail etc from thunderbird Lupu to lighthouse64
I've always wanted a puppy that could use all of my RAM so I've downloaded Lighthouse64 Mariner and It's very pretty. In order to give it a trial I wanted to use thunderbird so I followed my usual pattern and pasted the contents of my existing thunderbird default folder into the new one. This has ...

srm or shred command SOLVED
Hello again,
Still delighted with my Slacko but I don't seem to be able to securely remove files. With other distros I've used the "shred" command or "srm" neither of which is apparently available in Slacko. What do you use, anyone?

I tried your suggestion darkcity.
I removed the two files from /etc/modprobe.d and re-booted the installed version. MPlayer showed ALSA in preferences but didn't play, nor did the internet. I'm wondering if a complete re-install would be the answer. I hope not.
Your continued help is much appreciated.

No sound from internet (You tube etc) SOLVED
Hello All, Slacko 5.3.3 - magic, everything works, even glabels! Great sounds from music files etc BUT, nothing from internet connection. Absolute silence irrespective of browser (Iron or Seamonkey) tried all the sound cards using ALSA wizard to no avail (no barks either) Mplayer blasting out Roy ...
